Spacer

Would someone be kind enough to tell me the purpose of the spacer underneath the mounting point of the steering rack to the chassis ? The reason I ask is that I cannot find my ones which I am sure I have put in a safe place !!!
Can I just make two of them to a thickness that would be flush with the edge of the rack mounting point where it is bolted to the chassis ? Or do I need the proper spacers.
If i do need the correct spacers as opposed to making ones does anyone have a spare pair that I could buy ?

Thanks Stan.

These spacers set the rack hight and have a significant effect on the cars steering. They are different sizes and when removing a rack you should always cable tie them to the position they were in and put them back as they came out. They often stick to the rack are you sure they are not still on the rack.
It is not unusual to find them replaced with a thick washer when removing the rack so all you can do is give it a try and see how the car steers particularly when the suspension rises over an uneven road and returns to the flat. Someone here may well have some.Gary

Panic over folks,
I found them in that safe place !! Just as well I did cos i had marked them so that I would refit them the same way as I took them out and now I can see the importance of their orientation.
Oh for a better memory ! As they say. 'Old age doesn't come alone'.
