me again ....

speedo is clicking and needle sticking on 30mph. before I go "in" for the cure, is it worth getting another speedo/dash cluster rather than playing? and the wipers aren't working! apparently all i have to do is take off the cover, give the internals a jiggle and they;re away, is this a common problem and any long term cure?

cheers frank

The speedo fault could be a broken cable catching at the end just enough to turn the speedo a little. Try removing the cable and trying to turn it by hand - if it turns it's broken. Otherwise it's the speedo unit.

What are you jiggling to make the wipers work? I have occasional trouble with my fusebox but never the wipers themselves.

yes, its time I spent a day on the R4 ... to be honest, I haven't jiggled yet, but the previous owner mentioned taking off the cover in the middle of the dash and then jiggling the mechansim/rods/something ... it will have to be right before I take it over the pits to get rego'd!

Do you have the '67-'76 instrument panels? (with the raised chrome vertical strips). If yes, a common problem in hot weather is that the needle warps at its end (due to high temperature) and drags over these strips, the solution is to take the speedo apart and fit another needle (I have made them from scratch). I had also one case where a 4W instrument panel lamp had been fitted (instead of 2W). This caused the plastic just over the lamp to melt and form a bump and the needle hit on it. Expect the unexpected...
