Hi
Just at the stage now for preparing the car for a respray. It is totally stripped down, although I am leaving the body on the chassis.
I have removed the rear right wing (a lot of rust around petrol filler) and will replace this with a new wing.

But my question is, do you normally remove all the wings to paint and then refit them afterwards?

What is used as the seal between the wing and fixing strip?

I have made the decision that I will be having the body sprayed and not doing it myself as the weather has turned now and my garage is just not up to the job for this. So I need to know whether to fit the wings or leave them seperate for them to fit later.

Will post pics soon - hoping I remember where all the pieces I have piled up will go back together.

Here's what I did: http://www.renault4.co.uk/gordini-sealant.htm

At the factory (at least for later cars) it looks like the wings were fitted before paint and then the join lines filled with black sealant after paint.

If the existing sealant is good then it might be easier to cut out the outer s4ealant, paint, then reapply. Otherwise it's worth taking the wings off to clean up any rust, paint and refit before painting.

I would use a polyurethane (PU) sealant like Tigerseal.

You can buy the proper type of sealant from your local spray shop, they use it for glueing modern car wings on too.
