Starting Problems?

hi guys, well I've finally had the R4 on the road and its marvellous! lots of fun and I love the gearchange ... starting though is a huge hassle and only happens after i've oured a little petrol down the carby, put the aircleaner back on (hate those backfires!) and she's away. I've tried all manner of techniques previously to no avail.

Also when on the road, if I ease off the accelerator, it hiccups.

Any thoughts? methinks a carby overhaul is in order ...

I think the same, a carby overhaul should be in order. Could it be that the reserve in the carb is leaking, so there's not enough fuel in there in the morning? Is the choke working? A standard R4 is nearly unstartable in a cold morning without the choke.
Does it backfire when in compression? Could be the timing...

yep, choke works fine, no probs there. haven't had a chance to check plugs and points and timing, but its on the list! too many other things to do ... need a big (Renault) holiday to get everything done!
cheers f.

A good service and a carb clean up sounds like the things to do. :D

I had a terrible starting problem that turned out to be a blockage in the choke jet.
