Sticky Accelerator pedal

Hi everyone,
My R4 F6 develops a sticky accelerator pedal at times leading to high revs.
The springs etc on the carb seem to be fine.
I was wondering if it might be a bushing problem on the pedal itself?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ken

Hi Ken

From past experience, the problem is usually at the carburettor end. Does the accelerator stick if you accelerate when the car is stationary? When it sticks, if you kick down on the accelerator pedal, does the cable free up and the carburettor returns to idle?

If it happens when stationary, try grabbing the throttle lever and seeing if you can return the carburettor to idle by hand. The return spring is a common culprit as they stretch. Whilst in the vicinity it is worth spraying the area where the throttle lever is secured to the spindle with wd40. If the cable has some age to it, it might be worth taking the cable off completely, grab the inner and work up and down in the outer to see if it is sticking, spray some wd40 down the outer until the liquid emerges from the other end and work the inner up and down in the outer. Even if it proves not to be the cable itself at least you have oiled it and eliminated it from your enquiries.
