Bonjour.

Went to tighten up the drive shaft nut and it just turned and turned...Had to cut it off in the end. I reckon theres enough good "meat" left towards the end of the shaft. Bloody annoying as it was the last job to get it through the CT (mot) So before i go hunting eBay i was wondering if anyone knows where to get said nut and a cpl of those washers that sit behind it.

If it's the nut only, it's a widely available M16x150 Nylock one, you can find it at any industrial supplies store.

What i can see from photo you put is, that your thread at the end where is reaching wheel hub is eaten. Try to retread it before putting new nut.
This way you can destroy new nut.

There is possibility that nut wont hold good enough because of that eaten tread

Theres enough good thread at the end of the shaft. i will space it out with two more washers

Petak is right. Even if you use a new nut, it will not be able to be tightened fully.
Putting one more washer may not allow the self locking part of the nut
to reach the thread. Beware, these nuts have the bad habit of coming loose even when properly installed.

When I read things like;

Plus i have a thread file
then the shivers run down my spine.

Just replace the drive shaft and don't start playing with botch workarounds just to save a couple of euro's.
Do it right or leave it, there are a lot of good spare's to be found in France anyway and maybe just one village away.

Thoroughly agree guys, a second washer is NOT the answer, or filing the thread, it's a bodge, and could only end in tears. The only way is to replace the drive-shaft, which sounds a pain in the bum, but makes sense in the long run.
I'm sorry you've had this problem Ade after asking for advice regarding tightening this pesky nut, but clearly something was amiss, so better to find out now at home, rather than on a trip somewhere.
