Look what I just rolled out from my garage; there are bits about this van which are pretty good, and there are bits which aren't (see the bottom photo for clues).

Basically it needs someone who isn't afraid of tackling a chassis job, I won't bore you with too much info at this time as I'm not really up for selling it to anyone who doesn't come to see it and talk about it first. I'm reluctant to put it on eBay due to the hassle and idiots associated with that so would like to invite anyone seriously interested to come and have a look and make me a fair offer.

It is a reluctant sale, but I can't keep it mothballed inside for much longer as I need to use the garage for access/storage for an extension we're planning this summer.

<retracted>

If I had another garage I'd leave it sitting there until I found the right person to do the work needed, but sadly I haven't and can't... in an ideal world I'd like to dream that one of you wizards will snap her up, keep her alive and enjoy for a few years, and then sell her straight back to me... I will feel a bit empty without an F6 van in my life, but here goes.

Please PM me if you'd like to find out more/come and have a cup of tea and a crawl about underneath. I've realistically got 6-8 weeks before I'll be falling over it so no immediate rush. Van is in Ely, Cambridgeshire, I'm about most evenings and owing to the fine weather of late will keep it outside for easy inspection.
Depending on the level of interest I might suggest a sealed-bid style auction, as I find it hard to put a price on... in the end it comes down to how handy you are at these things and how much you want a right hand drive F6 van, and I'd really like to recoup some of my losses, I wouldn't want to give her away too easily.

To reiterate/key facts;
- Chassis box section(s?) need welding in, body off job I'm told.
- Currently SORN'ed so collection by trailer (though does run and drive).
- Engine starts and runs,
- Electronic ignition,
- Front wings will need removing and re-fitting as they were sealed badly when done in the past,
- Exhaust needs replacing but I already bought a complete exhaust system, just never fitted it as it would have to be taken off again to fix the chassis,
- Van was presumably white once - still has white paint internally, which actually adds character once you get used to it, mind you if you're lifting the body off then that could be changed then.
- Novelty value: it's got a towbar!!

I'll try to get back as soon as possible to any responses but I'm not always online so forgive me if I appear to be ignoring you. I look forward to hearing from interested parties in the near future.

I think Bobbles still got one of my old ones to fix and I'm sure tomcat wouldn't cope with 1108 power and he's used to Lhd now
Best let someone new to this find out how much fun there is to be had stripping things down and sweeping up rust afterwards while scratching your head

If I could manage a 3.9 litre V8 in my TR7-V8 I can manage 1108. Cheek of the man:vsad::vsad::fighting:

Looks like a nice little project- have sent you a PM and would be very interested in a second one if still available! Thanks

I'm giving it a miss as Paul's says i've still got his old F6 to refurbish after the two i'm working on now :laughing:

Went to inspect it this morning to satisfy my curiosity.
Certainly interesting and I was pleased I had taken the time to do so.
Phil was very honest indeed, good to meet up with him.

Phil, as I am the person who sold you the van I am quite shocked at what you have written about me in your first post. I can’t let what you say pass unanswered as you have maligned both me and the man who did all the work on the van - he is a qualified mechanic and his reputation is his livelihood – and the MOT Test Centre where the MOT was carried out.

You inspected the van and went for a drive in it prior to deciding to buy.

I gave you the paperwork that I had received from the previous owner, as well as documents showing the work I had done by a trusted local mechanic, after an initial inspection and full service by a well-known Renault 4 expert frequently mentioned on here. I am not a mechanically-minded person and any/all work done on the van was done by qualified people. In total, I spent in excess of £1,000 on the van in the time I owned it. Prior to selling the van I had it put through a pre-MOT test which came back with some advisories. I then had the mechanic deal with them before resubmitting the van for MOT which it passed with no advisories. The reason I did this was to ensure the van left me with no issues. This MOT was carried out at an official MOT Test Centre. There was nothing ‘shonky’ about it.

At no time did anyone - the Renault 4 specialist who did the initial inspection & service, my local mechanic or the MOT Centre - ever mention a problem with corrosion of the chassis box sections.

After I sold you the van, I found the Haynes manual which I sent on to you free of charge.

Indeed I even e-mailed you a year ago (March 2014) and asked how you were getting on with the van. The only things you mentioned in your reply was that you had changed a blown fuse and that you were clearing your garage because the van was outside all the time and some rust was starting to show. You never mentioned having any problems with the van.

It goes without saying that any old vehicle will deteriorate and I can only assume that is what has happened in the time you have owned the van.

I am confident that, while the van was certainly not in show-room condition and showed its age, it had no major faults that I or my local mechanic were aware of at the time when you bought it from me. As I said above, it went through a pre-MOT and then a ‘proper’ MOT to ensure that as good as I could reasonable get it prior to passing it on to a new owner. And as I said, the MOT was carried out at an official MOT Test Centre. There was nothing ‘shonky’ about it.

Finally, those who know me know that I am a nice, decent, respectful and honest person and I am certainly not a ‘joker’ or a ‘mugger’.

I feel you owe me an apology, but I don't expect I will get one. I would however ask you to consider withdrawing your comments.

Regards,

Michael.

I'm sorry Michael, I didn't mean to suggest you were complicit in anything untoward, only to say that I shouldn't really be able to push my finger through a recently undersealed chassis member within 10 months of an MOT which detected no points of future concern.

I wish to retract any part of what I've said which brings into doubt your person, I did feel aggrieved by the MOT assessor's assessment though, and I didn't go out to name and shame.

Sincerely,

Phil

All a bit embarrassing, wasn't it?!
I am tentatively announcing it's sale, still in my possession but due to be collected tomorrow.
