I just new this would happen. I have tried to print the eight pages, Blacksmith, from my Toshiba laptop using my HP cordless printer, however what comes out are the entire pages from the forum. Therefore the pages I need to read are tiny. Any tips how to enlarge these pages, please? My wife seems to think that if you could email the pages to me, it might work that way?
In the meantime, could someone help me out. It's apparent that the rusty front floor has been caused by a water leak as the car has been parked outside for some years. Water has sat quietly under the front rubber mat and done it's worst. Now having de-rusted and painted the floor, I can see that water is dripping down to the right of the steering wheel and onto the fuse box/parcel shelf. Probably the water is entering the car further along, perhaps the windscreen wiper spindles, and travelling along behind the dashboard. There's no apparent damage to the windscreen seals. I'm certain that my first R4, some thirty years ago, had the self same problem, and I failed to solve that too! (Paul, It's not the large rusted hole for the roof aerial, I cleaned that up and applied more fresh duct tape.) The is a small hole in the bulkhead in line with the steering wheel which should have a grummet fitted but I don't think it's that. Perhaps the air vent area?
(Later) Blacksmith, It's OK. I have now discovered a way of enlarging your scanned pages large enough for me to read them. What publication were they taken from please?
(Even more later) Ah, I think I found the source of the rainwater leaks. I found a gap along the top of the vent and once removed, there was a lot of dirt and plantlife inside. Along the top on the inside was the remains of a long thin gasket, or was it old sealant perhaps, but whatever, it had hardened and begun to break up. I presume a length of material O-rings are made from, would be sufficient but to save time I ran a length of sealant along the groove. Then followed a devil of a job getting it all back onto the bodywork. Sealant was getting smeared everywhere and the tiny tiny screws failed to expand the split rivets enough to keep the vent flush against the bodywork. In fact I think that age has caused the vent to bow a little so it would never ever be properly sealed.
Another trip to Halfords in the morning to see if they sell O-ring material and copper sump washers. I'm still not convince that the vent will seal properly so it may require a bit of bodging (more sealant and insulation tape).
