the eternal r4 chassis

What? Explain!

There is a Renault 4 chassis for sale that is galvanised?

It's not new and has been extensively welded, sandblasted and galvanised. I was thinking about getting my new chassis galvanised, but as most rust occurs from within, painting the outside and a good dose of Dinitrol in the box sections may be preferable.

I had some PE (polyetheen or nylon) bushes made for my front suspension. Makes the car stiffer around corners.
For those who don't understand: I'm building a R4 Alpine Turbo. Everything will be adapted. From the bushes to the brakes and springs. All of it to racing specifications. The engine will get a 5gtt turbocompressor, carb, fuelpump, fuelpressure regulator in combination with a MB Sprinter intercooler. The wiring will be AT.
In fact allmost the complete car will be transformed, only the exteroir will look much like a early seventies r4.
I'm also busy to see how to fit r5 GTT brakes around the car. I know it can be done, only I'm searching for an answer, which is how to fit the r4 driveshaft in the R5gtt wheelhub. This seems to be a problem, but maybe the driveshaft can be adapted to fit in.

Wow, your first post was from when I was off the internet with the bad eye. The chassis looks wonderful - looks like the panels weren't bent from the heat at all. I'm definitely getting my next chassis galvanised.

What did you need to do for preperation? Presumably you had to have the chassis shot blasted and chemical dipped. Anything else?

What did it end up costing? 100 euros seems very cheap.

I can see the modifications for the 5 speed gearbox, and the engine sounds very cool. This is going to be an excellent project.

Well to be honest, there is some minor "wrinkling" in the beam in which the chassisnumber is "written" but it doesn't seem really an issue.
For the preparation, just make sure everything that should be welded had been done, because once the chassis is galvanised, there's no welding possible anymore. I had some reïnforcements made to the chassis to make sure it would come out straight. You'll also have to make sure that there are enough little holes (about 6 mm) to let the air out and the sinc in and out. Place them on "high" points in the chassis where the air could catch itself. Then I had the chassis shotblasted as you presumed. This set me back about 110 euro. Chemical dipping will be done by the galvanising company.
Untill now I still don't exactly know the price for the galvanising because my "metalman" who arranged the galvanising, is on holiday. I assume it must be around 100 euro, because the price depends on the weight of the product.
