..Tomatoes or Gem Squashes anyone?

You could make some nice soup for the winter with those toms. I'm interested in how you've crossed your squashes with the R4 to create a Gem R4. Do you think it is possible to grow a full-sized R4 using full-sized squashes?
;)

Lovely Toms

Ah what a great sight ..... I have not seen such since 1988 when my father-in -law passed away. He had three greenhouses in his garden and an abundance of tomatoes beans and pears ... those were the days! Sadly a seafront balcony does not quite 'fit-the-bill', in the same way.
A pity that SE21 is too far for me to travel at present, or I would be up there in a flash. I can taste them now, grilled and on toast with PLENTY of salt and pepper. I can but dream. Hope they don't go to waste.

Shame there isn't an excess of cucumbers too, as we need some to go with the Pimms on Saturday night ;-)

Those tomatoes do look yummy, Like Ian above I too have fond memories, my mother was a voracious grower of her own produce and wandering round her garden this time of year pinching georgeous fresh tomatoes straight off the vine is a fantastic memory.

Its a real shame as at the moment we are reducing the garden to a more manageable plan and are removing the three green houses that my mother had, its a shame but they took out equity release so the loan company are now going to get us to sell the house. It had a fantastic garden all totally organic and I always knew that to get my mother into a good mood, all I had to do was to get her to show me around and get her to tell me what she was upto at that time of year.

I do remember being at a meeting of our playing field assciation recently and we were discussing the planting of trees (Ian S' favourite subject) I got told rather snobbily that I didn't know anything about growing things. So I did have to point out that my mother and father had been presidents of the Shropshire Horticultural Society and that I grew up virtually living at Percy Throwers house. Although I don't do much at the moment with my gardens I learnt an awful lot through Osmosis in all those years!

Anyway we ended up organising a tree planting session, every child in the village came up and planted their own trees. It was a great day and in twenty years time the bare boring looking park should look great now it has over 70 tree planted in it.
