towing capacity of 4L?

Hello Everyone,

I’ve done a bit of searching and can’t seem to find the maximum towing capacity for a 4L. I haven’t yet bought the 4L but I assume I should find one with the 1108 cc engine. I would like to tow a total combined weight (trailer and contents) of 500kg. Rest assured I will keep an eye on the gauges and pull aside when traffic builds up behind me!

Also, is there a highly detailed book about the repair of the 4L, (something along the lines of the Linsay Porter’s 2cv book by Veloce)? If not, what is the book that people usually purchase? Something similar to the Haynes book?

Thanks, and wish me luck on the car search.

Steve

Hi Steve! I've got an 850 F4 on the orig.hitch it says Max of 500kg-This also correspond with what it says in the reg.papers. Mind you there might be diff.rules&regs for different countries.
I've got a 495kg caravan so have to leave my slippers at home;)

Best rep.manual to have is the orig.one No doubt in my mind. Haynes and Clymer are ok but I think they try to cover too many years and models Or it might be me that's too easily confused.... -R.

Thanks Reidalpine! Do you have the ISBN for the repair manual you use? Or maybe the exact title of the book?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve! it's one in the MR-series from La Regie Renault.
The one I have here right now covers R1120/1121/1122/
1123/1124/2102/2104/2105 and 2106 orig.pt number is
77 01 431 192 They issued these on(at least)yearly basis.

-the higher the MR-number the newer... this one from-70
is MR 61
-I have newer ones elsewhere, but can't remember the numbers off the top of my head! -R.

No ISBN-number as these are from the early stoneage:rolleyes:

Thanks Reidalpine, I'll be looking into that. What language is the manual in? I struggle at bit with French, although my wife could read the manual to me while I do the repair!

Thanks,

Steve

They issued these manuals in lots of lingos-mine is in Norwegian but I can't see any reason to change wife
for That reason ;)
You will probably find one on eBay in English-they seem
to be all over the place (especially when you think you
don't need one-When you do -it might take some looking around for one...
The illustrations are very self-explanatory,so you will prob.
not have any big problems with a French one either... -R.
