Has anybody ever done any trials in a Renault 4? MCC trials are open to all and my friend who has done all 3 (Lands End, Edinburgh, and Exeter) in his Morris Minor says he remembers seeing several 2CV's but not a Renault 4. Would they be any good? Mineseems to fly off road, but off road up hill hasn't really been tested. Would be fun I guess anyway. May try and do one, mainly depending on the MOT in December, and whether this is really just a silly idea that would kill the car! Any thoughts?

Yes, your friend may not have been watching for long enough, back in 1986 I did the Edinburgh, in 1987 the Exeter and some other trials in the classic series in my R4 fitted with a modified 1108 engine that would really rev.The car was fast on the road (off the clock was possible) the MCC trials are not too bad but lack of grip is a real problem I had a load of lead pipe on the front cross member to help but it reduces the ground clearance.I can't remember getting up many hills without a tow!! I'm looking at a picture of it on the Edinburgh and will try to get it scanned. Good luck if you try

Sounds like good fun, though I've found traction poor off-road with the inside front wheel listing up and spinning. Would be worse going uphill with the weight moving further towards the back. Still sounds like fun though. Once passengered on a trial in a 1927 Austin 7 and that was hillarious.

Would love to see your photos shako.

sounds fun ,maybe a use for my gearbox guard after all
or would a 4wd sinpar conversion be handy?

Hi
Sorry 4 wheel drive not allowed in classic reliability trials, I never was going fast enough uphill to do any damage to the gearbox!! Strong point to attach the tow rope to is essential. Will try to scan the photo.
