My car came with a mixture of tyres, the front two consists of a Michelin MXT80 145/80R13 and a Firestone F-590 145/80R13, whilst the back ones are a Wynstak Phaser R23 135R13 and a Southern Steel Belted Radial 755 135/R13. A right old mixture with the newest being twelve years old and the remainder dating back to the early 90s. Still lots of tread left but as they are now ancient, time for a change.
Chatting to the boss of a local tyre depot this morning I asked if there was anything better than the run-of-the-mill budget tyre and he recommended GT-Radials at £40 fitted and balanced. A Google check reveals these can be bought online for less but the fitting and balancing needed to be added so it looks as if I'll plump for the GR-Radials down in the village.
It will be nice to not only have fresh rubber but tyres all the same size. Neither do I need to mask the tyres up so I can respray the wheels as the tyres are being replaced anyway.
