Hi All
Just gotta tell this story. As you may know we bought an '85 R4 on ebay a month or two ago and it ran so well we decided to go to France for Christmas in it!!! We'd already planned the trip to meet family in Brittany but not in a Renault 4, hereafter referred to as Ruby.
Anyway loaded up we drove to Dover, ferried across and then a further 480miles to our destination. Had a fantastic Christmas, drove around to various towns and then headed home fully laden, mucho wine in back plus cases.
After 100 miles or so Ruby displayed a faint rumble under load and then we spied a massive Renault dealer just off autoroute.
We couldn't resist the looks we'd get so rumbled in while french mechanics stood there looking somewhat surprised. After some bad french they got the manager who spoke quite good english. 'Don't see that many nowadays', he grinned 'they're all in Morocco carrying, how do you say, le drugs'....A Renault dealer with a sense of humour!!!! Anyway they put car on ramp, changed gearbox oil, greased everything and explained that R4's often get noisy cv joints when fully laden as suspension is so soft. Apparently 'it's no probleme, they all do it Monsieur'. 30 minutes later car was ready to roll and the unbelievable part..THEY DID IT FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!
2 WEEKS...2000 MILES...NO PROBLEME MONSIEUR.

VIVE LA FRANCE

I get the same impression in Switerland. But nothing is too much trouble for them. A lot of people slate main dealers, but they have a lot going for them. Like when they fitted a new fuel pump four months ago, and now it has gone again. Warranty exchange, no quibbles.

If you read another of my posts on here, you will realise that I am now eating those words!!
