Van 'F' numbers

Being pretty new to Renault 4 vans, can someone enlighten me as to the 'F' numbers such as F4 and F6 which they seem to have. Does it have anything to do with the number of side windows, for instance? Just curious.

F4 based on normal car chassis only available 845 rhd up to 79 in uk

F6 extended chassis introduced 1980 all 1108 AFAIK squarer body ended uk in 86
Europe and lhd varies on spec so need confirmation by others
But as you've expressed rhd preference guess this is info needed

F stands for forgonette (van in French I believe).

My F4 is LHD 1108cc. I've got used to it.

Paul, I have no interest in getting a van, just natural curiosity. I am more familiar with 2CV vans with their different heights, lengths and various side windows.

I'm pretty sure the numbers refer to taxable horsepower.
