Vendee Globe, Anyone fancy a race?

When we went down to the marina last night it was too late to set off. The racing yachts had raised their anchors and could be seen only as dots on the horizon. So no doubt Rear Admiral Sir Ian Stanbury is already on the high seas complete with charts of Lisbon. We'll follow the progress of our champion! Farewell and good speed, Lord Stanbury.

.. I am already underway Bluebell and in the lead..

..Its been a bit rough though and although it is a single handed race, dont tell anyone but I did use two hands yesterday as I pulled my broken mast out of the hole on deck where it goes down into the bilges, having undone all the turnbuckles on the 8 stays.

I then got my MIG welder out and followed Malcolms Mig Welding for Beginners thing - welded the two bits back together and then lifted it up again on my shoulder and managed to get it to slip back into its hole - more by luck than judgement I have to say.

I have had no sleep and been eating dried porridge since leaving Les Sables D'Olonne..but my spirits are high, bouyed up by the fact that there is only another 22,000 miles to go!!

..If you are all really interested you can keep an eye on my progress at :
