Water Leak

Hi

My car collects water inside the tailgate, so that when you open the tailgate water pours out of large hole on the inside of the tailgate near the n/s hinge and dumps it on the parcel shelf and cargo floor.

Is the rear screen seal the main suspect ?

My car is a 87 LHD TL

The only way to find out is to remove the screen and seal. Check that there's no holes on the welded seam - if so you have the answer. If all is okay then replace the screen and rubber and make sure it has some mastic on both edges.

I came across a supplement to the official workshop manuel which dealt with ingress such as you report, of course I can't find it ! but it showed that it is possible for water to run down inside the rear door as water can enter thru the door hinge poss due to a bad weld ?

Thanks for the information gentleman.

I am going to try one of these uv dye kits to see if the hinge is the problem. Only £10 on ebay and it will be interesting to se the results.
