This started out as just a little pre-winter maintenance (even though the car is currently out of MOT and likely to be off-road until late spring) just to renew the antifreeze. However when checking all the joints I tightened the radiator temperature sensor a little and managed to produce a leak of new antifreeze. It still leaked after replacing the sealing washer so I decided to take the radiator out for a good check over. It seemed to be ok but I thought it might be a good opportunity to replace it and the water pump (which was weeping a little). I was quite surprised to find a new Nissens radiator on eBay for just under £50. And I already had a replacement pump from my early days of R4 ownership when I used to trawl eBay regularly for suitable parts.

But, as the second photo shows, I need to swap the pulley drive on the pump. It looks like it is a push fit on to the shaft which may be splined. Can anyone confirm that this is the case, please?

The pulley backplate is an interference fit on the shaft and not meant to be removed / reinstalled. It can be done in a press with suitable supprts but you may run into other problems like different shaft diameters etc. It's better to find another suitable water pump.

Thanks for that, Angel. I was afraid that it might not be a simple swop.

Luckily for all of us waterpumps seems readily available still..If you get a refubd one check how tight it turns
-I've had two dodgy rebuilt ones that took Quite some force to turn...

They're widely available on eBay - it's a standard bearing size:
