I just got the car yesterday and there was a leak from the water pump. I stripped it off the car and changed both gaskets (either side of the plate) as looking from underneath with a mirror I could see the joint leaking.

I have just put it all back on and there is a leak coming from a small hole in the side of the pump (see the photo - I have put a small bolt into the hole).

What is supposed to be in the hole - I cannot remember taking anything out from it as nothing connects to it:?::?:

Also, where is the best place to get new water hoses - the ends of mine seem to have sprung a leak too, I think they are a little old

you can get the hoses from Oscaro, but the pump is probably on the way out if you have a leak from that little hole,it is a breather for the pump seal.

I think this normally indicates the seals in the pump have gone I have never seen anything in the hole.
Pumps can be rebuilt but I always fit a new on.

This posting was put on the renault classic car club forum

One of our Club members has recently had a water pump reconditioned at E-P Services, Unit 1, Central Trading Estate, Cable Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 2RJ and at a very reasonable price. This company offers a courier collection and delivery service, photographic recording system (to ensure the same pump is returned) and a life-time guarantee on their products. Priced about £55.00 plus VAT for a Renault Dauphine pump, including collection and delivery this is an excellent service. The company is owned by Paul King who will also offer advice on water pump and other cooling problems.
Their telephone number is 01902 452914

So you think ot is worth changing the pump out. It is a little crusty and took me ages to clean up.
There is a lot of rusty bits in the pipes too.

Need a new water pump. They tend to fail when the car has been unused for as number of years. The hoses can be crusty but don't tend to cause trouble.

I had an quite opposite experince, water pump stood unused for 23years(6/1989 to 9/2012) without any problems. I even had the alum outer surfaces glass ball blasted and blaster warned me that blasting could ruin the ceramics. No problems at all?

My pump is leaking though. Is this the replacement part does anyone know.

I am assuming the newer version does away with the nut on the front and the fan and large pulley just bolt on as before.
