I found a solex 32 with rocket cover and manifold from an r5, in a scrapyard. In the internet era I just phoned the owner of the scrapyard on the other side of Italy and he sent me a package.
Now I have this carb to clean and I would like to change all gaskets, buying a set; but I do not know what carb it is: on the carb it is written just "solex", and on one side "9 G1 625".
It does not match with gasket sets I found on franzose catalogue, and google is not of much more help.
Can you help me?

Here is a photo, ask for more details if you need...

This doc I found says r5 used the solex 32 dis model, so I assume mine is one of them...

Also, I have this plastic bit broken:

Is it easy to find? Is it a standard part easily foundable in every shop or a particular piece for this carb?

Thank you very much!

As far as I know, they never used this carb for R5 Mk1 UK models, only the 32IF7. However, it should work OK but you will need to buy an overhaul kit from a local specialist or ask your local Renault dealer to see if they can help - also try them for the plastic part as well.

It should be no difficult to find the kit, I've seen it even on the franzose catalogue.
The problem is I'm not so sure it is the right model... All links I've found on the net for that carb are for gt turbo r5s...
It comes from a 1982 car (956cc engine, said the man) in a scrapyard in southern Italy, something about 2000 kms from england! And I am quite sure it was a mk1 r5, not the mk2 super5, because I have the manifold too and has the same exhaust shape as mine...

Any advice to clean it properly? Methods and tecniques, products...

Thank you very much Steve!

The carb needs to be stripped down and a note taken of where everything goes. Use a camera if need be. When cleaning a carb I used cellulose thinners but you can buy carb cleaner from motor accessory shops. Inspect all the parts before ordering new ones just to make sure you have everything there when assembling. Do use a strong air line to blow all the crap from the carb body including the jets. Pretend the carb is like a watch, be careful and treat all the parts with care. Once you have cleaned the body you may find some other useful parts numbers under the dirt.

Here's the little plastic thingy up for auction ...

Okay, there will be a used valve cover attached to it ...

If you would need any help with that auction let me know, I can assist in shipping!
(You can have the cover shipped to me, I remove the plastic tube for you and send it to Italy for example.
Would be about 8 Euros or so ...)

Cheers,

David

Hi David, very kind of you! I asked the seller for the shipping price, but I think it's worth asking a local seller...
Even because mine was not on the rocker cover but on the carb...
I'll let you know.
Thanks again.

Once you have cleaned the body you may find some other useful parts numbers under the dirt.

As you said, dismounting the air filter mounting i found another code, A/08506214.
Googling this number gave me only used carb for sale and spanish forums on which owners ask my same questions...
Is anywhere a reference manual with renault solex codes?

There is a sheet metal identity plate attached on one of the top lid screws. If your carb is missing this, it would be impossible to check its origins and setting.
