Wheel bearings

... although a close up photo of the Bolk bearings shows a 'Germany' stamp... Hmmmmm, might be worth a go after all.

What can you lose to try!

Only thing that could happened is that you will need to change same bearing very soon.

I don't know too much about bearings but in South Africa we have a saying, "Goedkoop is duurkoop" and that means buy cheap and you end up spending more in the long run. I went onto the website and the difference in price is ridiculous!

It certainly is a ridiculous difference in price, ecpecially when you knock off another 30% with the website's current offer.
I've decided that German made bearings + cheap = worth a punt (I was buying some other bits anyway)!
Will let you know if they are horrible or not.

I cant see how you could even make them for that money!Ionly use S K F or Timken bearings it is time consuming to keep changing them, also they are fairly important part of the car.

Last year I bought some rear wheel bearings from a local firm and they cost me £20 for both pair, still going strong.
I would imagine that the vast majority of wheel bearings are all right otherwise the company making them wouldn't last very long, so how long has the company been trading?

I just changed the rear wheel bearings on my F6 van on both sides.
One one side I used some no-name aftermarket bearings that came with the car when I bought it.
On the other side I used a set of SKF (VKBA 652).

When spinning the wheels on the jacked-up car, the SKF side is absolutely quiet.
The other side is making a slightly humming noise.
Both sides have been treated the same way when changing the bearings.

I spent $26 for a pair of good brand rear inner bearings. Even if the no-name ones were a quarter the price, I can't see that saving those few dollars are worth the bother. Bearings are like seals, the real 'cost' to them is the time and effort to change them, not what the items cost to buy. Especially if you're paying someone to do the labour!
