So I am a serial 2cv fancier and if you are into late model 2cv's it has passed to legend that your car is either French, from the Levallois factory, or Portugese from Mangualde.

It got me wondering, that I have a rhd, 1985 R4 gtl and I wondered where it was built. Does any one know which factory, and even Country my car was made?
Thanks

hi Snailshed, all the details of your car are on those 2 plates that have been riveted to your bulkhead.
Take a photo of the oval one and someone will be able to help you.

Snailshed, I have a 2CV as well. my 5th, as well as a Lomax 223. She's 1988 so I know she was build in Mangualde, Portugal - 1987.1989 and 1990 were all Portugese after the Paris factory was closed down in 1987. Those little alloy plates seem very informative so am looking at what my future R4GTL has on them.

If you click any of the links on page google works it's magic too

Wow Paul, thanks old chap, that is most clever. How did you do that? If I remember though, the last figure on the bottom of the oval plate on C802PNJ is the colour code = 705 (Red). ;-)

PS That ride home along the coastal road was a bad idea with traffic gridlocked in every town towards Eastbourne. I spent absolutely ages overtaking thousands of disgruntled drivers, wobbling on the cat's eyes and gravel. It was a relief to finally make it home.

(Later) Ah I see what you did. You went backwards using the URL and got to the Google page where the 'translate' feature is. www.la4ldesylvie.fr There's a lot of interesting stuff on this website. The 4L Magazine? Is that still going? What became of that?

That's nice but we cannot translate it (easily). Lazy bloody Brit!

Sorry, I don't speak french very well but it is quite similar to italian and understaning simple written things is not so difficult... sometimes I forget I am writing to british people.
I think Paul solved the problem, but if you still need help you can shoot a photo of your car's plaques and I will have a look for you.

Hi, Thanks for this. So a little looking and checking of my oval plate suggests the car was manufactured in plant 'J' but the supplied page doesn't enlighten me further, and trying to google Renault plant code letters and variations didn't yield anything. Does anyone know where J is?

See http://quatrelle.wikia.com/wiki/Model_identification for information. J is the Billancourt factory in France.
