Windscreens

I'm going to have to remove the front screen from my 6 when I replace the headlining. I'm quite nervous about breaking it and the problems that might arise when trying to find a replacement. I know it's different to the 4 but could it be a match for the 5?

I'm hoping it's not one of those unique-to-6 items.

If anyone knows for definite that would be great, if not... well, we'll have to see I suppose.

I'm afraid the 5 and 6 windscreens are different.
Part numbers for Renault 6 windscreens: 7701348131 (Toughened glass)
7701348132 (Laminated)

Most likely toughened and will come out no problem with gentle pressure from foot around edge sitting in passenger side
May be able to locate screen if they didn't all get thrown out as still got a pile of unidentified screens

Thanks, Andy, I'm glad you had that info I guess the differences between 5 and 6 screens are more obvious in person than in pictures.

Are the seals still available? I'd more more confident removing the screen if I could just cut through the original seal and replace that on refitting. It looks a standard seal profile so I suppose I could just get a length of suitable seal cut and fit that if not.

I just gently turn the rubber back out from under the frame, it takes time and car but it will come out easily with just your thumbs and a couple of screwdrivers. , I hate using feet against it as the pressure can cause it to Crack really easily.

Make sure you take the chrome expander out of the rubber before starting if there is one as this also makes it easier.

9 out of every 10 windscreens I remove break, no matter how careful I am. Given that the last one I removed didn't break I'm not sure I fancy my luck with a unique item.

Thinking about it if you get stuck derek who owns renospeed bought and restored white R6 that had loads of parts with it including some screens you could contact him
