fitted the 1st wing today
the old wing has a small diamond shaped indicator fitted high up near the back edge of the wing itself

i didnt fancy cutting a new wing so left it off
i cant seem to find any photos of them on any other cars so i guess they arnt a standard or original thing??

the wiring does look original though unless someones been very neat taping the new wires in the loom

You've got a D registration car. They had the little side indicators from new. I think they were UK only and only 1986 so they are much lusted after.

They are needed for the MOT if the car was built after 1st April 1986. See the MOT manual

must be a early reg one as mines a C reg, although i think your right its a 86
so they didnt fit them before or after 1986?

Imports of Renault 4s to the UK stopped in 1986, and the repeaters were only fitted to the very last ones to comply with the regulation that came in that year. I've not seen cars from other countries with the repeaters so I'd guess it was a UK only regulation.

Here's a photo for people who haven't seen this rare and desirable feature:

i guess id better work out a way to cut a hole in my new shiny wing then! yikes

and refit them

Blanche our LHD 1990 TL passed her MOT's in the UK without any repeater indicators - maybe because she's french  . So you might get away without having to deface your shiny new wings.

You could put them in the A-section further back from the wing. This may make wiring easier, as the back of this panel is exposed inside the car.

Simple job with a Dremel rotary tool - especially if you have the hole already in the otherside - give it a go.

Measure up and cover the area with masking tape, mark out the shape (or make a template from the other side and trace around it on the new wing) and cut through both tape and wing with the metal disc attachment. Remember to treat the bare metal afterwards (primer then touch up stick lacquer or similar)

Hope this helps:D

They are on nearly all Italian r4s

Took this picture last year, somewhere around Venice.
