I have put R4 GTL in storage for winter in a controlled environment of constant 16c and low humidity.I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on how long I should leave before going and starting it and running it or do I just leave till spring.Any advice appreciated

I'd be starting it every couple of weeks and possibly giving it a quick move around just to stop anything seizing up I think.

Whilst mine doesn't see much use through winter I make sure it gets started at least one every couple of weeks and I take it out and give it a quick three or four mile run just to keep everything moving and make sure it gets hot. Seems to work ok.

Sounds like you have ideal conditions for winter storage. The car will be fine until the spring. Controlling the temperature will reduce the chance of condensation seizing things up.

Precautions would be to leave the handbrake off and chock the wheels. Pump the tyres up to 40psi to reduce flat spotting. Start the engine if you visit then put the car into gear to keep the clutch free

Thanks for the advice and Azazello you are right it is luxury I just count myself lucky I was offered a place in a in an aqaintances building with his cars

I do the same with mine , I try to pass by every 4-6 weeks to start it up and move it due to flat spots on the tires. This year I bought a power supply for the battery and it keeps it charge thu the cold days. Can t wait for spring to take her out again : )

Wow great advice Malcolm and all. I never thought of things like clutch seizure and tyre flat spotting
Sorry to sound very novice but how does the clutch stay free by putting it in gear :)

I forgot to say disconnect the battery. There is a tiny leakage (possibly through the alternator?) which flattens it after a few months.

Clutch stays free when you put it into gear after starting the engine. Just putting the car into gear has no effect apart from reducing the chance of the car rolling away.

I need to prepare mine for winter storage. I'll put the R4 away when they start salting the roads. The MG has been in storage since the weather got cold so I ought to do it properly and take the handbrake off.

When it`s possible... try to warm up the engine when you want to move your engine around...

Went and started her up today after my mate had put battery on trickle charge for couple of days and started ok.Moved her around so keeping brakes and clutch free ran her till upto heat when rad cooling fan started all seems absolutely fine. Will prob keep her there till mid April after I been on hol
