Can anyone give a code for a reliable rear gas damper or manufacturer, having looked back in the forum Deplhi / Di Carbon has been suggested, but they now only appear do a comfort or performance damper code D225 1383 or D 225 1240, but they are listed as oil filled and are low priced ie about £17, so I am dubious about them being the best, they don't list any others for R4s and no there is no mention of gas filled?

Check out KYB gas dampers. I have these on the rear of my GTL and they work well. They should be available at your local motor factors.

thanks for that, I did mover 200,000 in my previous R4s and never changed the dampers so the originals must have been good

KYB list R4s luckily and their part numbers are 343022 for the front and 551045 rear, only one option for rear GAS-A-JUST mono gas tube and front EXEL-G twin gas tube or Premium oil

Hi, I've only done about 20,000 miles so far on the KYBs but there's been a few camping expeditions to France and liquid supplies brought back so the car's been heavily laiden a few times. The trouble with 4L rear shockers is they work the opposite way to normal ones, and they are fitted almost horizontally, so a good quality one that's made specifically for the 4L is essential. Thanks for finding those part numbers, glad to see they are still available. Regards Brian.

I dont know if KYBs have been specifically designed for the peculiar application of the R4, would have to speak to their technical dept on that one, problem is a lot of suppliers list their wares as suitable for R4 use when they are patently not, your road test of 20,000 would seem to be a very good result and presumably you havent noticed any deterioration. I have ordered a set of front and back gas so will see what the difference is - next electronic ignition which seems to be the topic of the day,

The KYBs seem as good now than when they were first fitted, so I'll be interested to see if you find them as good as I have. Time will tell eh?
