I bought my R4 in June 1988 from the first owner (a Mr Stevens) when I lived in Hove. He was my first car. He had done just under 23,000 miles from new. He's been with us ever since in Harrow, then Cornwall and for the last 14 years in Mid Suffolk and has now done just over 50,000 miles. He was our only car for the first year, my wife's car for the next 10 years and for the last 10 years he's been tucked up in the garage with occasional outings.
He's always been garaged (unlike our other cars!). He needs a small amount of cosmetic work to the interior but essentially is in very good condition especially the bodywork with virtually no rust and is original.
I've got a complete service history for the last 21 years and a partial one before that (including the original Renault service history book stamped every 3,000 miles from 1969 to 1983). He's always been regularly serviced and is in good running order. The current MOT expires on 11 October 2010 and I've got a continuous chain of MOTs back to 1985. I've also got the original owner's manual, the original log/registration book dated August 1968 and the original tool kit.
It will be a wrench to sell him as he's part of the family. My wife says she'll cry when he goes. I work long hours and (apart from starting him up and running him every 1/2 weeks) I don't get any time to spend on him. I'm not mechanically minded (but lucky to have a good and cheap local car mechanic) and he's now of the age where he needs an enthusiast to look after him and show him off. The final spur to realising it's time to sell him is that my eldest is now 17 and needs a car and I haven't got room for 4 cars. Can anyone give him a good home?
Price £1,950. Email address mark.swallow65@yahoo.co.uk. I have photos I took this week which I can send anyone interested.
