Found this the other day when surfing around. The caption suggested that it was R4 based and the rear suspension has that look about it. It also has a bit of the the feel of the old 70's Hustler. Could it have been a kit car on an R4 chassis?

Were these actually made by Renault?

Yes they were. Never available over here but relatively common in France and Spain.
