Hi, can anyone tell me what size battery and recommendations for a half decent but not expensive brand please?

048 is the correct type.

Just over two years ago, I fitted a Bosch S3 048 battery which cost me £62.40. They seem to be a lot more expensive now.

Hi moonpie,just measure the battery-tray and order the largest battery that fits. Your alternator charges any "normal" battery nicely
and you'll have good power to start plus keep those beers in the cooler nice and cold too.
Remember-even if the new battery comes "dry-charged" Don't just install. Take your 4 for a good spin (at least 1hr's drive)to properly
top-up your new battery Or couple up your charger for a couple days.It won't "over-charge" so no worries.... -Reid.

I've just had to buy a 6v battery for early R4
144 Inc vat for yuasa

Wow! That's about twice the price that I've paid for 6v 2CV batteries.

I was offered cheaper than that and gave customer choice of either approx 70 for budget
The yuasa was nearly twice as heavy as the banner battery I took off
Also the cca was higher and it was struggling to turn over fast enough b4 on the banner which was 3 yrs old
As it was only expense needed in a years motoring not too bad really
