All Renault 4s should be eligible for classic car insurance policies. My understanding was that you needed to run an additional car as a modern car in order to qualify for the cheaper classic policies.

Speaking to my insurer (Footman James) this is not the case. Having just added my highly modified MGB V8 onto my policy (for £34) I asked about the Renault. Seems that as long as I have more than 1 classic insured with them I don't need a further modern car policy.

You can't maintain a no claims bonus on a classic policy, but I can keep the bonus if I insure the Renault as a modern car for 1 in every 3 years. Hmmm - some money to be saved here.

:D

Road Fund Licence

Following on from saving some cash by running your 4 on a classic car policy, am I right in thinking that all cars over 25 years old also qualify for £nil road fund licence?

Used to be less than 25 years old. Unfortunately the laws changed - now free tax is only for pre 1st Jan 1973 cars.

Not any more! Free road tax is only for cars built before 1973. It was a rolling 25 years but this government stopped that when they came to power....

You can buy classic car insurance for almost any car over 15 years old in some cases,
I insured a 1992 Toyota Celica for just £90 last year but I have since sold it on as the brake caliper parts were really expensive, and yes I fixed the calipers before I sold it on!

Just to add a little bit of info I am with Saga car insurance with my 2001 Rover 75 and they will still let me use my full no claim bonus on any other modern car, if I wanted to have two modern cars!
