Continental R-Engine parts needed

Just like me then Joop. -for me it's enough to see snow on a postcard.. on the Up -we're moving in the right direction now//-Reid

yes --i think you are right on the governor---it does connect to the carb by a linkage---it just seemed kinda weird cause it has a pulley on it.

Every governor is driven by some way. This is a centrifugal governor with non-gravitational regulation with a feedback system that controls the speed of an engine by regulating the flow of fuel or working fluid, so as to maintain a near-constant speed. It uses the principle of proportional control.

Centrifugal governors were invented in the 17th century by the Dutch mathematician, physicist, engineer, astronomer, and inventor Christiaan Huygens and used to regulate the distance and pressure between millstones in windmills. More than hundred years later James Watt adapted one in 1788 to control his steam engine where it regulates the admission of steam into the cylinder(s) a development that proved so important he is sometimes called the inventor but that's of course not true.

When you look deeper in the (Continental) Renault engine you'll find another centrifugal governor that's inside the distributor and it's crankshaft driven.

As with all mechanical devices. regular maintenance is needed as seen in this Toro Groundsmaster 72 governor;

Chris, thanks for the info and video on the governor. this could be helpful when I get to the governor. Im not sure the internal condition. the pulley is free at least.

Hi Mark, If my memory serves me correctly that is the engine governor. The Toro had it to keep the engine running at constant speed. I believe its a Toro or Continental part rather than a Renault part. You might find it in the Toro parts book, you see reprints of them on Ebay quite often.

Thanks for your message. I went to a Toro dealer in our town and to a NAPA parts store and they have nothing on their computers as it relates to my mower. The toro dealer told me that my mower was a commercial type mower and they don't deal in the commercial mower. that would make some sense to me that the governor may be a Continental brand. i just hope went i get the water pump installed --the governor will work. the pulley is free on the governor so maybe that is a good sign. --thanks again for your message--mark
