Hi All

I am in the ROI and would like to buy a 4L as it was my first car in 1974. I have looked on this forum for a while and dont think I could take on a large restoration job. Ihave been looking on Ebay and have seen some nice running cars for 2000 +but would have import ,VRT and transport. Thereare no R4 for sale in Ireland so buying in UK seems to be only option. What do members think of link below.

Thanks for the fast reply. What do you think or have you seen Sullys car in Cork.

Hi,

I went to look at these last night as they are very local to me. I will describe them in more detail.

Silver car has no engine with it and the gearbox is out. Drivers side inner wing top will give a year or 2 of service before i needs replacing near side ok.

Front floor not to scruffy, outer edge of chassis needs a patch. Cant get near the Near Side.

Doors and rear floor ok. Inner rear wheel arches are quite bad under the black matting where they always go around the optional seat belt mount. Near side has a 5 inch round hole that will get bigger once cleaned up and the drivers side isnt far behind. Floor ok, Boot lid has been stoved in at the bottom.

Chassis is ok at the front, 1 patch needed on the side as i say by the drivers feet, btu the rear needs some work around the usual suspension mount.

Again cant get near the Near Side but the drivers side needs a 4 inch plate on the bottom and either side near the mounts.

and 1 head lamp bowl

Other wise thats about it

The F6 is complete. Body not to bad, will need a drivers side wing (outer and inner) passenger side inner has been patched, and a front bumper (rusty)

Floor, well it has had a hell of alot of welding and its mot welding not show standard. Has had patches both sides 5 inches wide FROM FRONT TO BACK! both foot wells have had big plates put over them. Rear floor has been patched where they always go on by the wheel arches. ! wheel arch has been patches on the side as usual and the other side has a 3 inch round hole in.

Chassis, again heavily patched, rear suspension has been patched up, and the rear chassis where it leaves the floor has had a piece of "U" section welded over it, so no idea what thats like under it. 1 small patch on the ver rear by the bumper

Didnt start it, Inside the seats want steam cleaning (several times) or swapping, gear knob missing and a few buttons. No mats.

LOG BOOK FOR VAN HAS BEEN SENT FOR SCRAP......

I offered what i felt was good money and i was turned down. Ideally you would re chassis the F6 or do what the man says and do the £500 + repair to the rear suspension on the car and wheel archs and swap the engine.

I have shown the chap the rusty places to he can photo them should people wish to see them, he was un aware of the rust.

Mike.

To be honest, they sound like donor cars at best. I'd have thought they'd need to be pretty cheap to make it worthwhile repairing or alternatively stripping of all the decent bits followed by a trip over the weighbridge...

thats what i didnt want to say as it seemed abit rude to do so.

Thanks for the info it will save me a trip Maybe I should go for a car needing less work
