As promised my friend is bringing this 84 gtl to the UK in the next couple of weeks. It looks tatty but it is quite sound.
149000kms, the only rust repairs would be to the rear hatch slam panel, a small hole in the passenger floor & a tiny bit on the drivers floor. All suspension anchorages & sills are rust free. The rear wings are rusty but not on the shell. It drives well, has new brakes & CV gaiters. A pair of headlights would probably see it through the MOT. I have lots of photos of the crucial areas & will forward them to anyone interested. I attach 3 of them. Asking £950 delivered to East Kent.

Hi, Are you going to repair the rust and put it through an mot & register it here in the uk? I ask because i think for the little amount of work involved & a £50 dvla fee (see peppers page) you could get a good price for selling a very nice car. The wing tops look very solid

Michael

Hi Michael,
You are right, it is very sound everywhere except where mentioned so would be a good car, but my friend does not have the time to do the work. It would make an easy running restoration for someone there.

The Renault is now in the UK nr Deal, Kent. Ring Peter on 07561 028745.
Go & see it, possible to get it on a ramp so that you can look at the underneath.

well done sir, was it a forum user who bought it?

Sadly & surprisingly, no. There was just one enquiry from a forum member. I would have expected a bit more interest, but I rembember the total lack of interest when I posted a thread about 6 Renault 4 4x4s for sale at 150 euros each, ex French army & in good condition. I expected to be killed in the rush.
There are some VERY nice Quatrelles coming up for sale here & prices are shooting up. 4000 euros is not uncommon. I notice that Morris Minors are fetching serious money whilst the 4 still seems to be very cheap despite being difficult to find there in good condition. Some members do tend to talk the 4 down, though.
I have just bought four 4's, 3 of which look very sound although they have been standing for a while. Two have already been reserved by friends after they have been worked on, but they will stay in France.

Two questions: If prices are so high in France these days why did your friend not sell it there? And do you think that the fact that a car is French registered and left hand drive puts people in the UK off?

Hi Bluebell,
firstly, the prices being asked for by some in France are for almost showroom condition cars, or at least should be, which my friend's car wasn't. Secondly, I noticed that a few of the wanted ads specifically asked for lefties, but most enthusiasts know that the less rusty, & therefore longer lasting, cheaper to restore cars will have to come from abroad, where most cars are lhd. Many fans are prepared to put up with this - you just have to look at the amount of "super cars" that are not available in any other form. I thought many forum members have a 4 for fun rather than a daily ecobox. Lets face it, for cheap motoring you would buy a P reg Ford Fiesta for £295!
