Outgoing ??? (To the Tech.brigade)

filled motoroil and fitted most wires and hoses today.New battery-tray and radiator-brackets in.Traverse ready for some paint
steering-rack also in-Waiting for the new upper and lower ball-joints.Hope they're here real soon..You hear that MRP ?
-I can't wait to get Rofen on the road,so am crossing all fingers all goes fine... -R.

PM'd you about the anti roll bar bushings.

Can you post some photos of the gearbox mountings and cradle? Seems an interesting solution compared to cutting and repositioning front crossmember.

Hi Angelos! -Sure.I have taken some pictures along the way so I will post them soon as I am a little more organized here
-little progress today as shortening clutch-wire took Forever... -R.

You could of used a short piece of tubing as a spacer if cable too long

old cable was already too long for old clutch which had forward facing lever, new one has rearward facing lever so needed to be shortened
a whole bunch. It will be a temp fix 'till I can get the correct one.All that matters right now is to get it out of the garage so I can drive it a
bit b4 winter. We had our first frost this evening..Def going in the Wrong direction over here by now... -R.

Mark the date-Roffen the F4, Reborn today!

Finally, after twoundredandseventyeleven hours it was time to test-start motor...
-first crank at key gave NOTHING :(-no warning-light -no sounds -No life :o...after some heartfelt "French"found the new alternator
(identical Valeo-unit to old one) had switched positions for Pos. and Neg.connecting Hrmmm!
switched wires, made my prayers in all directions incl. Mekka,Medina,Poundstore and Boots
-then turned key,got lights -Yes!! One more quick Ave Maria and I turned key to start and Low and Behold, it started with a Bang!
worked on all 4 and in my blood-shot opinion it sounded more like F1 than F4 :clapping:....................................
some more detalis to sort out tomorrow ,gear-linkage,still waiting for ball-joints,and hook up petrol-lines etc before I drive it home
to get on the bonnet with new grille, lights, chromed orig.bumper and love-handles

First drive home will be equally as exiting and a check that all 5 gears are whre they're supposed to be in that box of gears and other
cool thingymajings,
and of course the minor detail that most of them works in the Forward-mode is of Some academic interest atleast to me....
-Wish me luck guys! -R.

I'm crossing everthing. After all your effort you deserve success mon brave.

We all make mistakes
A problem shared and all that ☺

UPDATE .:scared: ...Loooong overdue

as the garage I had access to suddenly was crammed to the plimsol-mark with what best described as anchors Roffen had to step aside
for a long periode, after the earlier Set-back where motor suddenly got stuck, I only had limited access to garage to search for cause.
(lots of innocent sleep lost lately)
-When found, it turned out Not to be the motor that was the culprit, but a double coned bearing in the 5sp.gearbox that had seized-up.

Search on, and finally located one in France, and was after long wait for it able to get it installed plus rest of g.box cheked and serviced
then had to wait for ages once again, then had a small window of opportunity so got busy putting things together once more, this time I
used the lighted flywheel which turned out Not to be compatible with bendix on starter-which I only found out after some hair-rising
shearing-noises when trying to start motor. Cog engaged a bit then slipped and whined Loud.

Motor left in this time so only took out gearbox itself.don't know if I saved time by doing this way ,but into S&M! I just Had to try new
way-right? Got it out after some slight massaging, changed to what is called "Extended Mass Flywheel" Now if anyone on here can tell
me what exactly is the purpose of that I would love to know....
Its close to double thickness one-piece but "extra front-part" does not engage or drive anything so I'm at a loss.
Only thing I can think of is the fact this motor have a low tick-over at 650rpm +/- 25 so could this extended mass be to have it run
smooth at this low rpm?? because It really Does run silky-smooth...One for the Experts I guess.

Fat flywheel fitted, all mounted back in,fingers crossed-and What do you know.. it fits! -motor starts -All sounded good. about 5 Ave
Marias later it Still holds together and runs strong.

Adjused Co and Nox,held it at about 3000rpm's for 20mins then retorqued top.mounted lots of thingamagings and after 2,5 hours cooling
loosened one bolt at a time and retorqued to final setting. All as stated in my Autodata book (MUCH more detailed than Haynes-manual!!)

Had to cut and redo clutchcable which should be only half the lenght of before, clutch release-arm sits horizontal and works upwards now.

Have used only premium oil for g.box and motor and also used red anti-freeze as I noticed just how much cleaner and nicer some of the
above mentioned anchors looked using red stuff..

Started and reversed off ramp only to find both shroud and fan blades on rad-fan hindered gear-lever from engaging 1st/3rd/and 5th..
other than that(!) -all seemd fine

Took Roffen for a spin (Litarally)-as we had had a sh*t-load of snow and I only have summer-tyres on.took it real nice and easy just
to feel it up.Day after there were some bare patches so What to do? Had to test again right? This time I was able to observe a very
promising kick when 2nd carb opened.. in addition the shear sound is just awesome too..I was grinning all around my head..
and all this with that very restrictive orig exhaust-system on
I will order (or try bending one around one of the trees outside here myself) a much more open exhaust-system one of these days....
Already have a nice sports-muffler so will try to use that on it..

Have ordered new skinny read el.fan to replace the fat deep one also needed new temp.sensor switch as these tende to conk out
after overheating, will pick up tomorrow, so have now spread word that garage is no good,to keep inflow of other cars low as poss.
to make room for Roffen in there...

-Last thing is to mount bonnet, which I have prepared with quick-release hinges and easy-connectors for electrics then I'll take all
ovens outside and hope to melt some snow atleast in this part of Norwayland..

PS: Tried to upload some pixes but either the system doesn't work Or I'm just dumb (absolutely NO need to comment on this one!)

PPS: If of interest, I will post "The Things That Will NOT Fit Right In" on such a transplant later on

-Hope all of you guys have had a real nice time lately and that we meet up somewhere again this year/ -Reid.
