..I had a text from Pepper yesterday to remind me it was 'Plant a tree day' in England - Did anyone else plant a tree yesterday?

..Anyway what a hard working man he is - He mentioned he could be in Wick one day, Haverford West the next, he was in York yesterday and will be in Exeter today..

Funily enough I will also be in Exeter today but not to work my socks off for 8 hours!!

Goodness only know where he will be next week but remember he may be in your town, so dont forget to offer him a huge 'Sausages Egg Bacon Beans and Chips' if he is around!!

..So, nice to hear from you yesterday Pepper and Bonne Voyage to you today and everyday.

Peppers back home woohoo!

I've done some silly mileage this past month, its standing at 4779 miles! and I've still got another 3 or 4 days to go!

So Ian what tree did you plant and where?

And if its national tree planting week http://www.treecouncil.org.uk/?q=node/41 we ought to organise gettng those American Ash trees sorted out some time soon.

..Of course I did Pepper..

.. And thanks for reminding me.

..As a lot of people wont plant any at all, I decided to plant a lot that day and here is a pic of all the ones I planted - mostly Pinus pinea or Stone Pines.

..Amazingly enough the weather was fab that day and towards the end of the afternoon, all these campers turned up and set up their tents in my newly planted field on Dulwich Common in preparation for their very own tree planting session the next day !!

..I was, I have to tell you completely exhausted that evening and all my tree planting muscles ached like billio but a glass of Dulwich Rouge and a sizzling steak hache supper soon had me feeling like planting 100 more the next day!!

I am definltely Jean Giono's 21st Century cousin!!

PS...Pepper - What can you tell us about Horwood House?

Horwood House, shrugs shoulders, sucks in breath through teeth, pauses for effect and the result is.

Erm Nowt!

Apart from wot my friend google says of course!

Looks like a lovely place.

..Horwood House, Winslow, Bucks

..Come on Pepper, owned originally by the Denny family - now a hotel and conference Centre was the birthplace of Percy Thrower, the first celebrity gardener and chum of yours ..?

Frederick Denny amased a fortune from Bacon and Pork

Harry Trower, Percy's father was the oroginal head gardener and it was here in 1913 that Percy was born.

Stats: 16 garden managers - on 482 acres of grounds, 2 farms, 11 cottages, parklands and woods.

Percy left school at 14 and left a shilling for an 11 hour day five and a half days a week.

In 1931 he moved to the Royal Gardens at Windsor.

So Pepper, tell us you PT story again...

..End..
