R4 850cc cutting out when driving

Hi Niels, some close up photos of the inside of your distributor and outside where the condenser is, would help. To see how everything is connected.

SO now I took every bit of the breaker system out, switched to old breakers and voila! It started like a new car....
So apparently the new points have been covered in some sort of protection film which should be removed with acetone before installation.
I have never tried that with points on all the old motorcycles ive had.

So all in all, 2 days rich in learning regarding the engine of this little renault beast :)

AND its not cutting out in junctions anymore. Which properly was the near-faulty coil.

Now its fine electrically; starts perfectly and is fine at speed, but when im slowing at a junction it still dies.... If I use the clutch only it will go into its normal juddering idle, but if I use the clutch AND brake at the same time it seems to die. Is it maybe the clutch that doesnt release totally? Or just dirt in the carburettor?

I'll try removing the carb. filter and see how it looks today, and then maybe pull off the whole thing to rebuild it at some point.

Following this as my car hasn't run the same since it had an oil change and new oil filter. Your description is exactly what mine is doing, cutting out etc. My mechanic is used to working on old cars and it's just got through it's MOT but it's still running like crap.

I just blew a lot of dirt out of the idle jet, and tried giving it a bit more with the mixture screw (and counteradjusting on the idle screw). I think i'll tear the carb apart at some point, but as it is now it is driveable and the cutting out seems somewhat gone or only partial.

And then tomorrow i'll go get my honda cb400f from winterstorage, and give it a good long drive :D

moonpie, if you have a 1100 with the zenith 28 its maybe a filter in the carb that is clogged up, as mentioned in other posts in the forum.

So now it has new everything in the ignition department, and the carburetor is soaking in wd40, waiting to be blown through and rebuilt. Before the idle jet was cleaned which didnt do much. The mixture screw was pretty gunked up at the tip, and some of the vent hoses from the head were also a bit stuffed.
But if the stalling still appears when the carb is rebuilt I really dont know what to do :)

Ive collected some hamerite and a mini-grinder, so now I can get going on removing rust at prepping for a partial respray :)
