R4L virgin question

Mine has got me just about everywhere and never not been able to cope, area I live is popular with the ‘off grid’ camping and 4x4, the 4 has been to most of the sites popular with these, often drawing bemused smiles from the owners of said vehicles, its taken a full on sound system to the top of a mountain for a festival ( 3 trips due to amount of equipment) up tracks that a Renault Espace just could not get up, drives around Santiago/A Coruna no problem in traffic, motorways 90/100 km, let them pass if there rushing to get there, enjoy the scenery, your looking out of you own flatscreen, not rushing to see whats on the one hanging dormant in the living room and to me the most important thing a 4 puts back into motoring, Fun, if you enjoy driving you will like a 4,they can, will and have got to most everywhere....View attachment 27096
Sometimes even before a speeding bulldog..

That's is awesome. It is exactly having a fun daily ride that's pulling me, as well as just driving something that is badass and more mechanical. And french since I live here at the moment. For the budget I'm thinking of spending on a car currently (being in a new country where I don't know how long with everything going on these days), I can either get a newer secondhand car that will be a sensible choice and get the job done but bore me to death, or I can get something that is not only fun but a car I will (hopefully) remember in 20 years time looking back. But something tells me I'm preaching to the choir on that one in here :)

Hi Bob
Buy a 4L. You won't regret it. I drive a 1982 1108cc GTL. She's my daily driver, doing a 25km round trip to work every day (when we're not in confinement, of course!). It's hilly where I live, and she pulls up the hills without any problem. She's happy doing the odd longer trip, too, when I have to drive further afield, and is even happy doing short stints on the autoroute. As for your ramp/parking comment, I think you'll be fine. I live on a hill, and to access my garage I have to reverse the 4L up a steep entrance to get into the garage. She manages the tight, steep access easily. Be warned, though. Everyone will pass comment on your car - they'll either want to buy if off you, or tell you their first car was a 4L, etc. I'm amazed how many people talk to me about the car when I'm in car parks, or even queueing at traffic lights! Good luck :)
