Renault 4 GTL SOLD

For Sale : Renault 4 GTL, white, 89,803 miles, first registered August 1985.

Until I purchased the car in April 2004 (mileage 88,200), it had been owned from new by an elderly lady.

Under my ownership, the car has covered a further 1,600 miles, and passed 2 MOTs - the latest was in Feb 2007 when no repair work was required to achieve a pass.

The car was used as an extremely reliable weekender for day trips.

Since April 2005, the car has had a new battery, a new tyre, new registration plates, and been welded on the driver's side rear wheel arch - the red patch in picture 1.

My borough council (Richmond upon Thames) restricts residents' parking permits to one per person and two per household. In July 2007, upon the purchase of a very sensible and safe baby transporter, the Renault became our third car, and consequently had to be declared SORN.

From July 2007 it has been stored at friends' houses - both in a barn and more recently outside but under cover. The car is in fair condition - the body panels show some rust but not enough to fail an MOT. Inside, the vehicle is clean and tidy.

The car comes with the most comprehensive service history - detailing every item of work, spare part, and mileage progression throughout its 24 year life.

This is a very reluctant sale, but I simply don't have the time to devote to this fantastic car.

I will be advertising the car on eBay very shortly. Now I have decided to sell it, I'd prefer as quick a sale as possible. Hopefully, it can go to a good home where someone from this forum will use and enjoy it.

Inspection at anytime is welcome. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Storage location : Woking, Surrey (just off the M25).

Price : oiro £500.

many thanks

I have today visited the car at its storage location to start the engine, take more photographs and shoot some video. You might be interested to see these additional images - they are available for viewing at www.gordonavenue.posterous.com

This afternoon, despite the snow and 0degreeC in Woking, the engine started at the first attempt in over 6 months. She ran smoothly and without any signs of mechanical problems. I also drove the car a very short distance on a private road and the clutch, all the gears, lights and brakes all worked well.

many thanks

Sold to a forum member

Dear All

I am very pleased to say that this morning my car was sold to a forum member who will provide her with the required attention which I do not have the time to devote.

The purchaser turned out to be a first rate chap who clearly has a long standing passion for these brilliant cars. I wish him all the very best for his time with the car - I know he will look after her.

Although the car's advert on eBay produced only a few early bids, there was significant late interest. In excess of 10 serious buyers contacted me after the auction was terminated early, wanting to be given a chance to purchase if the deal fell through.

So, this forum produces results and ensures that cars go to good homes. Ebay produced lots of enquiries and would also probably have resulted in a quick sale. It would appear that demand for Renault 4s is still strong, despite the poor weather and the distraction of Christmas.

many thanks

Hello from 'the first rate chap' described above! May I firstly return the compliment! Gordonavenue was fabulous and I could have been buying a new Rolls!

Yes, I struck the deal over the telephone last Saturday and by 5 o'clock Wednesday I had experienced the R4's unique joys again! After a gap of 30 years my hands found all the controls naturally. She purred effortlessly round the M25 to her new home.

She will need some TLC and £££'s - What lady doesn't?. Whilst not flying through an MOT (ok she failed but doesn't want to talk about that...) most of the jobs are minor and would be part of a full service. Wings will be replaced quickly and sprayed using the original paint code (even on ebay!).

The chasis will need some moderate work. For now I am using the Christmas break with her at home... starting the engine, exploring and showing her off to family and friends.

Best quotes from my children " Wow dad, that's really retro!" and the other , "Cool' .

I am making an inventory of parts and would welcome ideas from forum members on good second hand contacts, easily accessible to me in Bromley, Kent. Fortunately Renospeed is less than 5 miles from my home and Derek was fantastic when I picked his brains!

Hope to make new friends on the Kent Run in May!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Fabulous Forum - thanks all!

Mark

PS Gordonavenue - thanks also for the pics above. Let me know if you would like a spin sometime!
