Starting problems.

Ok, so I start to refit the new starter from Mr Auto, it looks good, however I come up against a problem. As can be seen in the attached picture the electrical connections are different.image.jpg
The live feed from the battery will not connect to the terminal which is now next to the engine block. So my question is can I simply swap the two wires over?

I am going to say no because the solenoid needs to get an earth through the brushes to operate
You could bench test it with jump leads or run the live heavy wire to terminal in gap between block and solenoid
Quite a lot of modern cars use that routing to keep wiring from exhaust heat
Just make sure it clears pulleys and v belt

Other thoughts include if solenoid is mount with 2 screws maybe remove screws rotate 180 degrees?

Job done, thanks Paul(and others), I routed the battery feed along the back of starter after rounding the terminal which was making the cable tight against block. Started straight away, enough to go outside and turn around for winter storage. SORN'd now till April but good to start every few weeks over the winter.
I'll probably see if original starter can be sorted to keep for spare.
Over the winter there's a small oil leak to sort out, hopefully just rocker cover, possibly lower down, just have to see.

Here's a photo of a ducellier solenoid I destroyed earlier (didn't work anyway). On that the two bolts go to contacts inside so the wires could be swapped. The only problem would be there is a little wire into the solenoid from the bolt with the wire that goes into the starter and that would need to be swapped to the other bolt too.

I have modified the connector on the feed from the battery before to make it fit a different starter.
