So after trying, with Ian to buy a Traction Avant (and an Amilcar and a DS) I finally have one. Perhaps i should be thanking both Ian and his good pal Nigel for giving me a shove in the right (costly) direction.

I know its not R4 content but look in the background.

I will shortly be selling the Red GTL to fund the 1962 van project. I just need to finish polishing it.

That's beautiful. I used to own a Slough built one in 1972 and remember that the handling was terrific - just like on tram lines.

..I cant believe you have finally got Maigrets old car Michael..

..But then again you are a very determined young man - Well done, well done indeed..

When Nigel and I start filming the new Maigret series, I now know where to hire the perfect car and as you know hiring cars to hugely successful film producers like Nigel, is very very lucrative and your car will be paid for in no time...www.tandemfilms.com

By the way, are we allowed to go to Thenay in a Citroen?

We will be going to Thenay in style yes, i like the idea of bringing back home to the Vendee.

I now need to search for a few parts that need fettling like a hardy spicer joint and mud flaps or brevettes? need fitting

Thanks, michael

Very nice-and does have some common points with a 4L, like the left hand turning engine and the torsion bar suspension.

ooohhh Rene..

So i have been using the Traction to trundle around in all week. I have clocked up about 200 miles.

I have fully serviced it, been through the one million greasing points, stripped and cleaned out the carb, re-set the distributor and valve clearances, fitted a new coil, condensor and HT leads, but it is still not running completely right, after closer inspection the rotor arm is arching out so thats probably the cause.

I also have no main beam head lamps and i am now down to one dip beam. I suspect after inspection that the main beam side of the bulb was blown when i bought it and i blew dip during the week. You try to buy Marchal 3 pin 6 volt bulbs these days. espically yellow.

Next jobs, locate a rotor arm and cap, fit bulbs when they arrive, remove drums and check brakes and grease wheel bearings. Last job will be to renew the hardy spicer joints before july.

Grease every 1000 miles the uk manual says.

..Oh Well Michael, you are racing ahead - my friend Rhiannon says Don't stop

..You are so lucky Michael as you can now Go your own way and take Sara along, I am sure she would enjoy the ride - You may think you are considered to be a bit of a Gypsy but thoes are Little lies.

With No questions asked its All over my head of course - Dreams are what you have Michael and they are Everywhere, as you know.

Having looked at the car I have decided that you need an original Tusk on his bonnet and The chain to attach the sky hook to the advance and retard pie cost.

Remember The eyes of the world are upon you and We wish you were here.

Oh..Diane has told me to tell you that You cant go back, so take the car to the Empire State and go and see Angel in Greece

All bits of useful advice from an old Albatross

Very good Ian, i am impressed, can you sing it in tune as well.

So, i have done about 400 miles in the old 'Normale' and i was wondering what the noise/gentle judder was at 75kph. I telephoned a few specialist and they advised me to jack it up, get hold of the drive shafts and give them a good old shake around.

"Check to see if the UJ cups are spinning around in their housings" Guess what several are so now i need to strip the front end down (slightly bigger job than an R4) and replace the UJ's.
