im sure it's a heat shield on the manifold but can't quite remember and I don't have any photos which cover it.
Thought it went in the middle ?
Help guys!

HI, Jonathan ,yes i think you right, i think it sits above the starter motor, hope this helps. mike

Fabulous Guys thank you ! Mick I thought it went there but like you cannot see the purpose. On the top side between the carb and manifold makes more sense .

Another head scratcher is hatching to do with shims and steering rack ....

More bits!

I think these go under the steering rack. They are shims. One thicker than the other . But I can't work out which way round.

Did not have those on mine!

But probably you are right for placement...do not know how you can know/find out on which side thicker goes?

Would be nice thing to know!

My shims are completely different.

I did notice that the edges on one side were rounded and finished off, while the edges on the other side were sharp.

The rounded edges face outwards, perhaps its the same for yours.

The thicker spacers have a little lug on them- just visible on the bottom photo on the top edge. Both these spacers have numbers 12? and 4 but they are both the identical thickness!

The thin ones are definitely different thicknesses and as you say Petak it would be good to know which side they go! - When i took them apart I didnt notice the different thicknesses and would have made a note as to which side they belong. Now .... and annoyingly I did think to try and work it all out by forensics looking at the meeting faces to see what belonged to what. But then I forgot and blasted away with the wire brush cleaning up the components and of course removing all traces.

Maybe we should keep this topic string alive for lots of members to use? Or is it only me that's forgotten where/how the bits went? :o

well i can't think either where they go, i've not come across them yet :dontknow:

Not from where front suspension uprights bolt to chassis to set camber at another guess
Ps I have deliberately kept one of my rodeos complete as when I finally get round to reassemble it I may have a few clues

Jonathan

They look as if they might be shims for adjusting the bonnet latch height.

Curious and curiouser!

They could have been put in in a previous life. My car did have a heavy bang OSF which bent the chassis . The steering was awful. So this maybe a diy repair?

Chassis is now straight having been on a full repair jig and with new side rail

Ok so good it means the shims I have fitted are correct and they are both the same thickness so no which side is which worry. Yes I can see how they could potentially be bonnet catch spacers will look tomorrow .

Andy you are so right. Excellent thinking ....they match the shape of the bonnet catch perfectly. I have s suspicion they were stuffed under the steering column in order to try and improve the steering. Anyway MYSTERY SOLVED!

Had such shims been officially available? I recently fitted some Jaguar XK shims as a "quick and dirty" way to correct camber on the Jogging. It handles perfectly, too bad people still consider it a quirky R4, not a Jag...

Ok next puzzle!

The headlamps are held in the bowl fitting seemingly by a spring clip only.

The bowl and lamp look like they should be securely fitted by two points only and pivot on adjustable threads for the other two. All good with the Spring side but the other does not seem to have anything on the lamp to clip into the clip mounted on the bowl.
I've got several original Seima Lamps and some repro ones -they are all the same

It should just push on to the metal flat prong and the springy bit has got a pressed bump to stop it sliding off
Some lamps bigger slotted holes and maybe it's not going on far enough remember using tiny file to enlarge slot in the past
