House in France & a (new!)4GTL in the Garage

I have just returned from La Vendee on Sunday having last week purchased a 4GTL. I've always liked the look of them and it was love at first sight (400euros / 2years Controle Technique)- it appears to run well - its stopping thats the problem! Having Googled Renault4 I came across you lot who seem friendly enough and certainly willing to offer the odd piece of advice.
So, hi.
Yogi

Hi Yogi

Welcome to the forum

The stopping or lack of it does get some getting used to at first with the R4, especially after a modern car, it the lack of a brake servo, the brakes are efficient enough. I have the opposite problem, because my only car is a R4 if I get to drive a modern car I find myself going through the window every time I hit the brakes.

..And welcome from me Yogi..

..I am the madman in the Vendee - Pepper (or Richard as his Bank Manager calls him), is the sensible one of the Vendee..But I am sure we would both like to welcome you with a glass of Mareuil Rouge at some stage..

As we may be neighbours, whereabouts are you in the Vendee?

I am near Mareuil and Pepper is slightly north of me..

Hi and welcome to the forum! yep, I'm near Mouilleron en Pareds, a tiny little village called Tallud St Gemme,

I have mad neighbours (almost as mad as Ian) who are Hells Angels.

Hi folks. Thanks for the great welcome, the advice on brakes and the offer of wine in Mareuil(lovely spot-know it well).I'm near Thouarsais Bouildroux so also not too far from Tallud (I recall an equestrian centre if not the Hell's Angels).
The seller bled the brakes but warned not to expect modern stopping distances-how true! Some older French friends could not resist taking the Quatrelle for a high speed (relatively!!) wander down memory lane.Shame they used the back bumper of their Espace to halt the R4.Worryingly he promptly produced the hammer he routinely uses for such parking incidents. He claimed it brought us closer together!
Although I look fwd to exploring the ditches at the side of French lanes and testing the roadside assistance I think our insurance included I regret that as my engineering experience culminated in a GCE 40 years ago the local french garage looks hopeful as they seem to know more about 27year old R4s than modern Citroens.
Photos to follow including Mrs Yogi draped over bonnet - yes, more dents.
Glass empty - so must go. A bientot, Yogi
