I've booked the van in for an MOT so thought I had better drive it up and down the road to make sure it is capable of getting there. It worked fine up to 25mph but after that started to run badly and would die on throttle.
Couldn't figure it out. The points are new and I checked the gap and set the timing. Still the same. Removed the carb to access the main jet and I did find some corrosion. Cleaned that out with a 1mm drill bit (which also enlarges the jet a little and helps with modern fuels). Put it back together and it ran worse. Finally put the original ignition leads back on and it runs perfectly. It's those crimp yourself leads again and I think I made a mistake putting the ends on.
Claude feels much nicer to drive now with all the new dampers, tyres, suspension parts and chassis. All set for the MOT on Monday.
