Renault 6 - orientation course - Steering

I hope someone can help, and apologies in advance for my extreme ignorance and novice questions.
One of the steering gear boots was burst so I have removed the steering "rack" in order to replace same, and generally check it all out. I am glad I did as the bushes at both ends are in need of replacing. However at the tail end of the removal job - releasing the last two bolts to the sub-frame, with the nut end blind, out dropped these shims(?). Can anyone please advise how these should be properly remounted.

Your name suggests Scottish blood! I am rapidly falling in love with my R6 here in Catalunya,. Some of the design is really refreshing, but coming as I do from Scotland, being able to strip her down without a fight is proving a rare treat!
That said she is a filthy bisom!! 50 years without so much as a wet wipe!

Yes, my father's family came from Shotts, in Lanarkshire. Whenever we go to Scotland (not often enough), it feels like home...

I am frae Hamilton, used to take the 56 Shotts bus! Indeed if you fell asleep on the last bus that was an unfortunate outcome!

Interesting Ian. I wasnt even at all certain where they sat though its pretty obvious. As you say with the amount of muck on them there position should have been self evident before I cleaned them up! Though in all seriousness you matbe can still make out the outline

I had 5 Mk 1 5’s and that’s where I especially remember removing the Steering Racks during Clutch Change’s.
I remember there was plenty of adjustment!

bushings are out for delivery so should be here in a week or so! Murder getting parts here, what with not having a postal etc. Autodoc. es is the obvious go to, a kind of consolidator, but no hint of a delivery date when you buy now, and shipping twice the price of the part. Its a proper test of patience. Meanwhile keeping amused removing 50years of kak from the top of the gearbox.
 
Used piezasautoclassicos repeatedly during my 4 ownership over here in Spain, can only recommend them here, shipping to me tip of NW has always come through on time, using standard correo shipping, only time things went longer was when I used the express courier service (DHL) on an order, parts took 2/3 weeks and lots of tracking detail false crap and automated DHL answer machines. Piezas had already agreed to reship order, when order came through obviously didn’t need to reship but refunded extra shipping for ‘fast delivery’
Good place to deal with here.
