Fuel Injection Fault Problem

Laguna IDE update

An update to my Nov 08 posting. Following Trading Standards intervention the dealer replaced all 4 injectors in December (at their or Renault's expense - not at mine). 4 months or so later - same old symptoms again. Now back at the dealer, who say they are in duscussions with Renault UK to find out what to do having replaced the fuel pressure sensor which didn't work.

I've now had regulator renewed twice, sensor 3 times, computer, 2 looms and all 4 injectors once but still the same problem. I can only guess at what was done under previous owners. Interesting to see the 100+k mileage quoted in a message above - mine hasn't even done 40k yet. There can't be many of these left out there. I reckon Renault should do the decent thing and buy them all back from us at the money we've paid for them!

I'll be back to Trading Stds if necessary and I'll update in due course for anybody interested.

Definately interested, I think I have the same problem.

I get 'Fuel injection system faulty, ESP faulty, consult your Renault dealer'

They looked at me as if I was stupid and said the two are not related, they couldn't replicate the fault and so sent me on my way. Five minutes later, you guessed it, same again.....

The fault only seems to occur when the engine is idle, if I keep the revs slightly higher than just ticking over it doesn't happen.

It seems as if it is a fault that only exists with the IDE and so many people report paying out hundreds, if not thousands, with no guarantees that the part that's being replaced will solve the problem.

I'd love to approach Renault UK as a group and pray they admit liability, it's a shame the current series of Watchdod has just come to an end.

I would definately be interested in going to renault as a group as my local renault have no idea what is causing this fault.

Laguna 2 IDE fuel injector fault

Hi I had a protracted conversation with Renault UK customer services today re my Laguna 2 2L IDE which is suffering the exact symptoms described by others. I was told by a customer manager that, people in forums somtimes get things wrong and I shouldn't beleive everything I read. Anyway they said there isn't a fault with the Fuel pressure regulator (FPR) and I should have confidence with my main dealer!!! I tried the tact that it was dangerous that the ECU cut the power then cut the engine totally when this fault is shown. I still didn't get any joy, they just gave me the usual rubbish reassurance that I should have confidence in their dealers / products.
Anyway I am having a new FPR fitted tomorrow by a mechanic. Hopfully this will resolve the problem. Probably the last Renault I will buy.

I have a Renault 2.0 Initiale 2001 and have had the same problem. It is going back into the dealer to have the same parts replace (fuel pressure sensor) for the sixth time in a year!!!!!!! I cannot understand why Renault are incapable of fixing this. The car was fine for the first seven years of its life.

I have complained to Renault and they have said to me that their technical deparment are looking at it but they don't seem to have a solution at the moment. Renault are not prepared to lend me a car in the mean time or give me a discount on a replacement so I have to go on putting up with the unreliability of this car. (It has only been three weeks since it was done last.)

The Renault dealer said to me that they have had this problem with lots of cars and that it will go again and I should get rid of it as soon as possible. A pretty damning statement from one of their own dealers.

I think maybe I'll give Trading Standards a call as well. The problem is who do you go for, the dealer or Renault?

This is the last Renault I will ever buy which is a pity because I've had a few and always liked them up until now.

My Renault Laguna 2.0 IDE Prestige...

After reading this, it appears I have the same problem as everyone else, the 'Fuel Injection Faulty' message, then 'FAILED' message and the engine cutting out immediately.
I've had this issue a couple of times since I bought the 'used' car in April.
Its sometimes been helped by clearing issues from the computer, but three garages have looked at it now and the one thing they all say is its 'possibly' the Fuel Pressure Regulator.
It appears Renault have redesigned the part, BUT the new manufacturer has yet to deliver the parts to Renault, meaning that there are no new Fuel Pressure Regulators in the UK to replce the old, faulty ones.

My car is currently in my local Renault dealers workshop, they are still looking for something else wrong with it, but I think its pretty cut and dried as to the cause!

I'm going to print this thread off and take it with me to see the mechanics @ Renault! Cheers guys!

Cutting out

Very worrying to read these threads. I have had a 2002 laguna 2.0 sportsback dynamique IDE for last 2 years. Bought it at 5 years old with 20,000 genuine miles and regularly serviced so in good nick. Has run well now up to 53,000 and suddenly flashed up ESP light and electronic fault light then wouldn't give me more than basic revs - thought it was limp home mode. Stopped for few minutes and it cleared up only to do same thing after couple of miles. After left to cool for rest of day it seemed ok again and drove fine for couple of days before conked out again, this time with no limp home effect just wouldn't stay running at all and seemed to be flashing up most of warning lights. RAC towed me in.
Is awaitig diagnosis although Bucks Renualt garage has said it seems likely it is fuel pressure regulator or electronic pressure valve and may not be able to get a replacement!
Wondered if it could be some sort of electronic loom problem though as am getting such a variety of warning lights.
Anyone know if new FPRs are out yet?

The work is done...

Funkmeister, and whoever else...

Well, after my car sat at the 'local' Renault dealer for 3 weeks, the new (redesigned?) part turned up and was replaced!

If the initial problem was due to the regulator getting hot then it makes sense because the only times it ever happened was when I was in slow moving traffic on my way home from work. I still have to drive in this traffic, and so far so good!
I suggest getting the car into a dealership, then calling Renault Customer Services (not the dealer, the head office) and make sure your car gets on a priority list, as I did! Strange how they're telling me one day that there are no parts and are unsure of the ETA, but after a day on the phone to Renault and being added to a 'speedy' list, the car is ready in the next couple of days!
Its definitely worth pestering them!

Regulator

Thanks Swinch
I'll give it a try as my garage says they've been waiting a month on the same part for someone else. All they could suggest was I went to a main dealer and renault might supply a car while I'm waiting!

Hi funkmeister Is this the head scratching, money wasting, problem solved? how much was this new part from Renault mate. ANXIOUSLY await your reply. How is your car holding up?:p

Regulator

Well it did turn out to be fuel regulator as predicted. I got on to renault as suggested and they were very helpful and efficient. They suggested i take car to renault dealership as although my garage a renualt specialist it's not a dealership and so can't offer open ended courtesy car.
Took car to Perrys in Aylesbury who diagnosed same problem. No one could predict when part would become available so they said they would set up car for me through enterprise hire.
All this has taken over a week though, but just as hire car was to be provided amazingly new part came in and has been fitted. Cost £162.71.
Strangely renault were saying they can't say what the schedule is for new parts until at least thursday, so where this one has come from i don't know - it's only been on order for 3 days though.
Enterprise wanted £50 deposit and £20 insurance though, so i haven't bothered as car is ready now.
Thanks for help it was well worth hassling renault, they were very helpful.

Thanks for that update Funkmeister, Is there any chance you have Renaults head office phone No so I can call them to order this fuel sensor. This limp home mode has been a total nightmare for hundreds or Renault owners. Keep us updated on your progress mate, & I hope all goes well for you.
Thanks again Funkmeister.:p

Just wanted a good moan on here my laguna developed this same problem injection fault and an esp fault, found the forum kept this valve cool with water and airconditioning on untill the car eventually got the dreade red injection fault every time i used it,took it too renault via the aa they put it on machine and came back with possibilities possible the engine loom, the pressure sensor and the fpr lol over 1700 in parts and labour declined there offer and plumped for just the sensor and regulator no parts in uk and still waiting after a month and no sign of the parts......

Fuel Regulator problems

Well after a couple of months happy motoring guess what? The fuel regulator has gone again! Yes the one that was fitted a few weeks ago. Apparently I am not the only one that has repeat problems.
Perry's garage took my car back in though just before xmas and have managed to get another part - I am assured these are a new design and a whole consignment has just come across from France, so hopefully anyone out there waiting for a part should have got one by now.
It's been fitted free of charge and i now have car back working again.
If you are still waiting for part get on to Renualt Customer service via their website and get them to put you on a priority list - make a fuss - it works.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me? I have a 2002 Megane Coupe. I have owned it for nearly 5 years and got it with only 24,000 miles on the clock. It now has nearly 90,000 miles but they are all done by me.
It has always run perfectly until a few months ago, I parked up at the petrol station, ran in, got back in the car and it was dead! So it had to have a new battery which I found very odd as it had been fine and I drive long distances, and never had any problems with starting it etc.
Then a few weeks ago it started juddering very violently and lost power whilst I was driving to work. After much hassle, I was told it was all the valves in the head gasket had gone and need replacing. 2 weeks later I finally had my car back...perfect...not quite! The engine warning light came on and it was still juddering (not as bad as before though).
The mechanic looked at it and said it was a coil had gone, replaced it and it was perfect again!
A few days ago after driving home, and having to park my car in deep snow, it started juddering again, and the engine warning light came back on. Mechanic first thought that 2 coils had gone this time, but now I'm being told that it could be that one of the injection cylinders isn't injecting at all!!
I am freaking out after spending over a grand to get it fixed a few weeks ago, can anyone advise me?
Mechanic has checked crank sensor, spark plugs etc but it may have to go back to Renault this time.

Please Help!!!!

Laguna Fuel Injection Problems

Not being at all mechanical I am dependant on Renault to carry out my servicing of 'Specialist Parts'. The local garage I normally use is not recognised by Renault to carry out warranty work.

My fuel Regulator has just given up for the 6th time. First time Renault London West agreed with Renault UK to replace at half cost as this was an unusual occurrence for a car less than 3 years old.A year later the same circumstances meant another half cost deal. After my third failure, which often involves real inconvenience I turned to a Specialist company ( Middx Tuning) who carried out a complete replacement of everything from the fuel tank pipes through to the Regulator. An application to Renault for a refund on at least the parts met with -No Renault Dealer -no Liabilty

Last June 09 the symptoms re-occurred (repaired by Renault under warranty)and then again in September 09 (again repaired by Renault under warranty).
The warning lights came on again five days ago and I am currently awaiting a response from Renault UK.

Time for them to replace what is an otherwise very nice vehicle?

Repeat of the same...

Well, here I am again!
After having the FPR replaced LAST August, all was going swimmingly until last month, when I was on the M25, middle lane, doing approx 70mph (of course)...
Out of the blue, "FUEL INJECTION FAILURE - STOP THE CAR!" and with that the engine cuts out... surely this is a design fault too, by the way?!!?
If the woman's voice wasnt so calming I'd probably have shit a brick!
Anyway, got to the hard shoulder, waited 90 minutes for recovery.
When he arrived the car had cooled enough for him to drive it on to his flatbed.
Knowing this was simply an over-heating issue, I got him to take me to my destination (a festival in Oxfordshire, rather than home) and decided to worry about getting home at the end of the weekend.
Driving home I avoided all motorways, in case of a similar situation... but it made it all the way without any problems. Did take 4.5 hours, but I got home.
Have been onto the local Renault people (who replaced the FPR last year) and they currently have the part on back order, and it appears to have changed part numbers since last year too... another redesign?
So, I'm currently on a rolling booking until the part arrives... and coincidentally they tried to play the 'Part is now out of warranty' card... I told them where they could shove that idea, and that the faulty part was still a Renault issue, not mine, and it appears they will be replacing it for free like before!

Anyone else still having difficulties?

And the latest...

The part is once again being redesigned, so in the meantime, my car is sat at Lifestyle Renault in Eastbourne, no due date on the new part, and no offer of a hire car or anything remotely resembling a Good Will gesture!
WHAT THE F***?
I've had enough... the Anti Renault campaign starts here...

Anti renault ?

Woh there - we love renault fours - totaly differant to the modern C--P, there simple you see, and rarely let you down. :D

Here also again posted last reply in january 2010 and again after waiting six weeks for parts and had the sensor and regulator replaced at a cost of £447 pounds and 63 pence the dam dreaded fuel injection light and esp appeared again, mind you it lasted 9 months and this was the so called newly designed part. Quote "you wont get any more problems with this sir we guarantee this for 12 months but we have left the engine cover off just to keep things cool" HOW MANY MORE TIMES ARE WE GOING TO HAVE TO KEEP REPLACING THESES UNITS ISNT IT ABOUT TIME RENAULT FACED UP TO THER CUSTOMER COMMITMENT OR IF THEY EVEN HAVE A COMMITMENT AND RECALL OR REIMBURSE THE COST OF THESE VEHICLES WITH IDE ENGINE AND IF YOUR LOOKING AT THIS RENAULT HOPE YOUR ASHAMED OF THIS DISGRACE....
