R4 restoration made in France

more on about the seatbelt mounting, was thinking of finding a good donar car and cutting that whole wing out and welding it in, not worrying about it at the moment

I did exactly the same things on my car. How else would you wanna do it?

Oh, now I see this last post. Don't bother using a part from another car, since I can't imagine that that will be in a good enough condition. Sooner or later that part will start to rust (more layers of metal on top of eachother in wheelarch is never gonna work) and you'll have the same problems (+ you'll have to wreck a donorcar for it, which is a shame anyway).

This job is much more pleasant, even if you can see that there are many bumps on the floor in the rear compartiment...the owner before me used to transport sheeps in the car

Try having 27 female guinea pigs in the back of one of these things! the noise when i took a corner

Good evening to all,

Do not be surprised if you have no news from my GTL during few months, the winter is actually too cold and too wet to allow pain jobs.

Rendez-vous au printemps

Hello everybody,

few months ago I said "rendez-vous au printemps", the spring is not yet here, but last week the weather and the temperatures were surprisingly fine, and as I'm fed up with the time it takes to restore my car, I decided to work every day on my car
I started to spray a polyester primer on the fiberglass parts: front wings and inner wings (the rear door is the one of my 77, I'll tell you about in my second thread...):

Then I made the seals on every place where new parts have been welded:

To realize the best thing I can do on the rear corners of the doors, I took those of my blue GTL as one's model:

As you can see mine are as careful done as those of Renault, I think they are even better done :D

Have a good day ;) I will soon tell you about the following of the story...

Hi Alexandre,

very cool to see that you still keep on that restoration project!
I'm sure it will turn out as a perfect car! One day.

Cheers,

David

Hi David,

as you can see time is long before ending this restoration, but many things -good and bad- happened in my life, so I didn't have time to work on it.

But I start to be fed up, so I decide to "mettre le turbo", it seems that I'm going to work as soon as possible to finish it for spring 2012 ;)

I wondered how you F6 "gets old" since you finished it ? All the repairs you did are still ok, you still have no new rust on the car, the engine works well ?...

To not compromise your resto-thread I will send you an e-mail.
But despite minor issues the F6 done 8k Kilometres in the last 2 Years with bravado!

Hi everybody
Here are the pictures of the following jobs I did on my car these last weeks, I begin with pictures of the final primer coating of the body:

607 Caisse avant apprêt.jpg
610 Tablier apprêté.jpg
612 Caisse apprêtée.jpg

As I already told you on my 1977 thread I sprayed the wings and inner wings with filler primer, then I sanded them with 240 and 400 dry paper:
621 Ponçage apprêt polyester.jpg
I also decided to spray at few areas of the body and inside the fiberglass parts, a stoneship primer to protect the fiberglass from gravels, here are the pictures just before:

The following will arrive soon ;)

Good evening all :)

Applying of stoneship primer on the different parts:

629 Antigravillon sur tablier.jpg

And... I made an enormous mistake, I'm furious   on the left of the photo you can see I didn't hide decently the bulkhead and there is stoneship primer at a wrong place, I will have to sand again this area to correct my mistake :( :(

just going to paintshop on 26th April 2012 !

:D Hi everybody,

at last, after many months waiting for news from my friend Sylvain, I have something to tell you abour the restoration of my 1987 GTL Clan ! The last time I told you about, all the parts of the body have been given to him, I was waiting for him to paint them, before working on the body.

This week, he called me telling me that his coachbuilder Gérard had painted all the parts, and that he was waiting for me to bring the car to him, to finish the job :D :D :D

Yesterday I went to Sylvain and I discovered his job:

Look at this beautiful fiberglass wing painted in 602 grey, it really looks like a steel one, isn't it ?

The rear wings have just been primary sprayed, they will be adjusted and screwed to the body before been painted definitively:

I restored the fergat wheels 2 years ago, they are ready to be fitted as soon as possible :p
180 Jantes finies.jpg

The genuine interior also waits for me to be fitted in the car, it is in very good condition, just needs to be carefully cleaned; the only problen is that the springs inside the basis of the front seats seem to be a little damaged...

Whent I started to restore the car, I decided that it will be exactly as it was when Renault built it in 1986... in every detail... except the inner and front wings in fiberglass... I'm sure these parts won't never rust

I actually look for stickers "Clan" to apply on my new body, if someone knows where i can find such parts... :?: :?: :?:
