Road trip 2011 - Thenay 50th Anniversary

OK, the French below the dotted line is something like this:

Send the coupon to: 3rd 4L International, 10 allée du Riou, 33950 Lège, Cap Ferret

Name:_____________________ First name:______________
Address:___________________________________________
__________________________________________________
Post Code:__________ Town:_________________________
Tel:_________________email:_________________________
Owned vehicles present:______________________________
[Not sure what is meant by this; it might be car reg. number?]

The text under this says something about payment must be by bank cheque, payable to 'Circuits du Val-de-Loire' and returned with the coupon by 1 July 2011.

The box on the right-hand side says:
ATTENTION!
1 entry per person, participant or visitor.
Access is free for the "meeting" car
Free parking for visitors.

The next bit I don't understand; something about not sending the tickets?

Underneath the box it says:
Number of entries:_________ x 15 euros = __________ euros
Cheque number

Hope that helps?

Where do we get tickets from, do we need to get the magazine, are tickets required etc ?

Many thanks,
Andrew

It looks to me that tickets are not necessary in advance and no cheaper, but you get a special offer on the official teeshirt and a 'Carnet de route' which is a logbook. Also you can get in at 12 noon on Friday instead of 2pm.

If you send off the coupon and your cheque you will not be sent tickets but you will be on a list of people at the entrance and they will know you have paid.

Hi there, last year I didn't know where to send the cheque, so I just phoned to book. They had my name on the list, and I paid on arrival. Best to send a cheque though I think. I'm sure if you decided at the last minute to go to the event, those on the gate would hardly turn you away, although getting a camping pitch might not be so easy. The atmosphere there was very laid-back and friendly, and I was made very welcome. The French were fascinated to see a rhd car, so what will they make of a convoy of them?

There will be a small contingent from Scotland, my mate Dave and his missus and my missus and I, two '76 TLs'. I'm slightly confused though, do we need to buy tickets in advance or can we just turn up on the day?, which will be Saturday. We're not camping.
Looking forward to it though.
Alan.

Hi there, check out Bluebells interpretation of the booking instructions, I'm sure he is right, especially as you are not camping. As I said, they are hardly going to turn you away if you haven't booked. It might just speed up your entry to the venue if they have some record of you that's all. You will have a great time there I'm sure. See you there. Brian.

Hi All,we are going down on Thursday morning, route is Calais-Rouen-Evreaux-Dreux-Chartes-Chateaudun-Blois-Thenay. We did this last year and is a nice drive on decent A roads but not too much motorway (or tolls!). We are coming back on the Monday but route depends on whether Dutch are driving up the Champs a Lizzy. We are staying in B&B within walking distance of site. We are aiming to take 2 cars but will see how it goes.
Looking forward to it already.
Becky

February 2–6 – Renault 4 display at the Retromobile classic car show, Paris (France)

Morning, I went to Retromobile and the R4 display was very good. There were around 10 R4s, including 2 vans, a Plein-air, a Parisienne, 2 cars which drove down the Americas, a gendermarie car, la poste, a rally car, an autocross car, and for the girls a new 'Miss Sixty' model in pink with denim upholstery. They had some good films on a loop beig show aswell.

Looking at the Thenay 4l website it looks like they are going to have a huge aperitif on the Saturday, everyone is to bring some of their French regional delicacies for everyone to try.

Do we want to bring some English delicacies for people to try?

It's in the latest 4l magazine No21

They have a 2 page spread inside the journal detailing what is going on over the weekend.

They have an apéritif géant and a grande tombola as new things going on.

Sorry about me mentioning the web site, I'd forgotten exactly where I'd seen it

I'll scan the pages in and post a link up tomorrow for everyone

Wow, Bluebells' an easy girl to please ;)

If I remember rightly Walkers crisps are missed by a lot of ex pats too???

Here we have the local speciality of Banbury Cake, and of course I'm originally a Shropshire man, so Shropshire Blue cheese is the best, better than Stilton ;)

For drink we have our local brewery Hook Norton Ales.

That seems to be the main difference between French and English aperitifs. The French do have a huge range of local alcohols ;) whereas we're more beer drinkers like the Belgians.

How can a Cornish pasty and a cream-tea possibly compete with frogs legs and snails?:)

I'm trying to think of all the English foods that our French neighbours like, but so far its a little limited. Pigs in blankets and proper Birds custard, I somehow don't think that they'd go to well together???
