When you arrives and someone parks next to you.. 4L Savane too and same year of fabrication..from Slovenia to Portugal!!

I need find the Savane trims..

16674kms..2years and 4 months after installed a Tudor TB450 battery, the battery dead.

Without any advertisement(typical). Before this day I did an 400kms trip,without any problem.

I thought probably the source of this was in the alternator, but after install the new battery Varta B23, I checked the battery charge values and everything looks OK

And for daily better checks I installed an voltimeter.

The distribuidor cap brokes..



I han an old for spare, it was just swap and problem solved..

Dwell angle adjust and I get my 4L back again.

Next job.. change rear bearings and brakes

All this was original..31 years.. probably the new material won't last half as long

Now the game begins..

To fit the gas shock absorber, was difficulty once we need to compress and hold it aprox 25cm.. A big thanks for the shares in the forum, it was very helpful.






Fit the bearings case on the hub



Inner bering install.. and fit an protection.




On The brakes I had difficulty to fit the lower spring.. if was today i would take it off the handbrake cable and all fit all mounted



Dot 3 with 31years



All clean and new dot4..

Last checks before closing..(i didn't take any pic, but i grease the inner bearing and the hubs cases)


Fit the final "torque" of the bearings didn't was at the 1st time, but is not too difficult do set it.




Test drive.. now I have brakes!! The gas Monroe shock absorber, change completely the drives felling

Anti-freeze change and system cleaning
Alternator volage regulator
4 tires 145/80 r13 uniroyal
Oil and filters
V Belts
Exausht
















Any appointment on the annual inspection.

Next think to finish, heat shield for the carb, and move the fuel filter to another spot

Carburetor heat shield.
Once I ran into this on some forum, combination of a real ceramic coated manifold as well as a heat shield.

That's a really neat idea and nicely made. It's amazing the R4 didn't have those as standard and hot starting is always a pain.

In the last month's I built a trailer to towing on the 4L.. still need finish the door, but passed on the first tests.

Towing the trailer and with hot weather, the brake feeling changed.. so..

Take off the old brakes pads and new glide sleeves

New spark plugs and air filter









Good brakes again..and..the..new sparks, tooks the 4L more smooth again !!

Still working on the heatshield for the carb.. new soon I hope.

I'm curious about any result. The configuration I posted had a ceramic coated manifold and I just got a price for ceramic coating the R4 manifold.

I will post the feedback. On touch the temperature of the edge near manifold is more hotter than the edge near the carb, some heat

I am also interested in this heatshield. As again hot start problems is coming. Temps are getting up
